    Description

    An onshore energy underwriter is responsible for underwriting individual large and risk engineered energy accounts in the US whether providing property insurance or reinsurance. They will maintain technical underwriting expertise, and communicate market developments. In addition, this individual also will contribute to the growth and expansion of other Scor products and footprint in the energy sector.

    The successful candidate will have strong connections and recognized experience in the energy industry or energy insurance in the U.S. The ideal candidate would possess strong business development and program management skills and have a deep understanding of client needs. They will be working in tandem with the global ohsnore underwriters and who assist them to grow the portfolio and Scor's reputation in the energy segment.

    Property underwriting

  • Underwrite Corporate Accounts and build up portfolio, according to the onshore energy Underwriting Guidelines,
  • Market retail brokers, reinsurance brokers, and insurance companies to obtain suitable business and negotiate acceptable terms and conditions. Travel throughout the region serviced by the office is required.
  • Get an extensive knowledge of energy property broker network.
  • Evaluate the technical aspects of risks, both from an engineering and underwriting standpoint.
  • Determine acceptable underwriting terms and conditions to write profitable business.
  • Determine exposures, normal loss expectancies (NLE's), maximum possible loss (MPL) and FMLS.
  • Determine pricing of risks for both quota share, and excess layers.
  • Issuance of necessary paperwork such as binders, policies, certificates and endorsements.
  • Maintenance of complete underwriting files.
  • Service accounts for renewals and other items, including meetings with Brokers, Insurance Companies, and Risk Managers.
  • Review and approval of policy wording.
  • Assistance with premium collections when necessary.
  • Evaluation of claims, in co-operation with the claims department.
  • Report on accounts and marketing activity,
  • Supervise the administration of OMEGA/Forewriter back-office tool (in liaison with the Technical Assistants) in relation to new or existing accounts,
  • Produce marketing materials and intelligence documentation based on research and analysis of both the portfolio results and the market data.
  • Client management

  • Contribute in developing and executing a growth strategy for specific clients within the energy sector in the U.S.
  • Participation in regional, national and international business development activities.
  • Track and provide advice to SBS Underwriting and Management Team regarding market trends and opportunities.
  • Utilize energy and industry knowledge to provide strategic and tactical support on a multi-million-dollar book of business.
  • Help maintain the current book of business through the development of strong relationships between Scor and senior points of contact in the organization of our key clients, resulting in high client satisfaction and retention.
  • Maintain energy risk and insurance knowledge, through participation in industry events, training programs and consistent market research/engagement.
  • Engage our key energy clients in proactive, value driven discussions.
  • Prepare and present materials to the client to increase client engagement and drive awareness of Scor's value.
  • Manage key performance indicators (KPI's) in terms of revenues and profitability objectives as well as key client information updating on salesforce for assigned accounts.
  • Bachelor's Degree. Or equivalent work experience.
  • Minimum 5 years' experience in underwriting, loss control, claims, project management, plant operation, or technical services in the energy industry.
  • Strong business and financial acumen.
  • Self-motivated, strong initiative, and effective oral and written skills.
  • Strong presentation skills, with advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office tools.
  • Must be able and willing to travel to other within the U.S.

  • Ability to see trends in data, understand origin of data, and incorporate data into meaningful reports and/or presentations.
  • Experience working with customer CRM software, Salesforce experience preferred
