    Description

    JOB SUMMARY:


    The Monitor Technician under general supervision of the Director, and in collaboration with other health care professionals, ensure continuous monitoring of cardiac rhythms by observing cardiac monitors; maintain all records and reports of rhythm strips in accordance with the established nursing standards and procedures.

    Any position that has direct patient care is considered to be safety sensitive by Avem Health Partners standards.


    DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
    Responsible for monitoring the patient once nursing staff have attached patient to the telemetry unit
    Check for accurate date/time printout on rhythm strips
    Provide daily printings of each patient's rhythm strip
    Maintain appropriate alarm settings for each patient
    Assist in troubleshooting monitor equipment
    Alert staff when a patient is in crisis
    Admit new patients and code telemetry charges into computer system
    Perform ECG's as needed
    Maintain supplies for monitor area.
    Assist with orientation/cross-training of new personnel on the unit. Act as a mentor and/or resource person to new or developing employees.
    Assist with general clerical duties as needed
    Provide immediate information to nursing personnel of change in cardiac monitor status. Notify Clinical Coordinator and follow established policy.
    Other duties as assigned within the scope of practice and overall function of this position.

    EDUCATION/


    QUALIFICATIONS:
    High School Graduate or GED

    One (1) year experience performing work related to patient care in a healthcare setting, six (6) months of which must have included experience as a monitor technician OR successful completion of a training program OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.

    CERTIFICATION/


    LICENSURE:
    Current BLS (or obtained within 30 days)
