DESCRIPTION OF POSITION
The School of Engineering & Applied Sciences on the Tri-Cities campus of Washington State University (WSU) invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position at the Assistant Professor level in electrical engineering. The School of Engineering & Applied Sciences (SEAS) is an integral unit within the university's Voiland College of Engineering and Architecture. SEAS is particularly interested in applicants whose research and teaching expertise are in the area of power systems. The successful candidate will be expected to provide outstanding teaching at the undergraduate and graduate levels, mentor graduate students, develop/maintain an externally funded research program, contribute to professional and university service, and participate broadly in the electrical engineering curriculum.
SEAS faculty have the opportunity to collaborate with scientists at the nearby Pacific Northwest National Laboratory (PNNL) , a world-class Department of Energy research enterprise that advances the frontiers of science and engineering and offers joint appointments to qualified WSU faculty. In particular, power systems faculty may participate in the joint WSU/PNNL Advanced Grid Institute ).
RANK/SALARY
This is a permanent, full-time, tenure-track faculty position with a 9-month academic appointment as an Assistant Professor at the Washington State University Tri-Cities campus in Richland, WA. Annual Salary is $95,000 - $110,000 per nine-month academic year. The position will begin August 16, 2024.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Conduct research in the area of power systems and develop a nationally and internationally recognized externally funded research program that supports graduate students.
Publish high-impact technical articles in top-tier journals and conference proceedings.
Teach graduate and undergraduate courses in electrical engineering, particularly in the area of power systems, and develop new courses as appropriate.
Advise and mentor undergraduate, MS, and PhD students.
Participate in service to the department, college and/or university through committee work, recruitment, and interaction with industry.
Advance the college's commitment to diversity and multiculturalism among its faculty, staff, students through research, teaching, and community outreach with relevant programs, goals, and activities.
Collaborate with other WSU faculty and PNNL scientists, including but not limited to colleagues with interest and expertise in the applicant's research areas.
Required Qualifications
Earned doctorate in electrical engineering or closely related field prior to the hire date.
Record of research accomplishment as evidenced by peer-reviewed publications.
Ability to develop an externally funded research program in the applicant's research area.
Ability to teach undergraduate and graduate courses in electrical engineering, particularly in the area of power systems.
Ability to communicate effectively with both students and colleagues in written and verbal forms.
Preferred Qualifications
Demonstrated specialization in the area of power systems.
Demonstrated ability to prepare successful research proposals.
Ability to initiate novel research directions in the applicant's research area.
Ability to identify emerging technologies and maintain awareness of the state of the art in the applicant's research area.
Ability to establish collaborations with other universities, national laboratories, and industry.

In accordance with RCW , the above salary reflects the full salary range for this position. Individual placement within the range is based on the candidate's current experience, education, skills, and abilities related to the position or as mandated by a U.S. Department of Labor prevailing wage determination.
