The Role: Surgical Device Repair Technician - Lenexa, KS

As a STERIS IMS Repair Technician, we will train you to service, restore, and repair surgical devices (Endoscopes) that are used in various medical procedures and settings. As a Surgical Device Repair Technician, you will be working at one of our dedicated device repair facilities located in Lenexa, KS. Our Lenexa facility specializes in the repair and restoration of Endoscopes.

The general responsibilities of a Surgical Device Repair Technician are as follows:

  • Our technicians work in comfortable, bright, lab like environments.
  • Service, repair and restore surgical devices (Endoscopes) to original specifications, appearance, and use.
  • Accurately examine, test and troubleshoot the Endoscope for defects and other issues.
  • Determine the best course of service or repair to renew and get the Endoscope back to OEM working order.
  • Work with various tools, equipment and small machinery such as microscopes, grinders, sanders, soldering irons and other hand tools.
  • Repair casings, flex tubing, circuitry, electronics, camera lens, and various machined parts.
  • To accomplish the repair process, you will follow highly detailed instructions and follow strict procedures to ensure uniformity, safety and overall medical device compliance. Remember, these devices are being used in surgical/hospital settings and require the utmost care, and attention to detail to ensure the safety of patients
  • Additionally, you will be required to complete workplace organization audits, abide by all STERIS safety, health policies and procedures.

What skills, experience, and abilities will make you successful in this role?

We recognize that this is not a common role, nor are there many other companies that do what we do. For this reason, we know that there are many different jobs, trades, and transferrable skills that you can bring to the table that will allow you to be successful here at STERIS IMS Generally, successful candidates and employes have the following general skills, experience, and abilities:

  • A Highschool Diploma or GED is required
  • English language proficiency
  • Minimum 1 year of overall work experience
  • Good hand/eye coordination with the ability to handle small (often very small) parts and equipment for long periods of time
  • Precision use of your hands with a full range of hand manipulation or dexterity
  • Amazing attention to detail. (You can notice things others usually don't)
  • Comfortable with and have general computer use skills.
  • Comfortability doing work that is often repetitive in nature. (Doing the same thing/work multiple times.)
  • Able to read, and understand detailed schematics, instructions, and diagrams.
  • Comfortable sitting, standing, and bending frequently or for extended periods of time.
  • Most importantly, you can follow instructions and stick to strict procedures and processes.

What will help you stand out as a candidate?

  • Experience in a similar role or environment using similar tools/equipment.
  • Experience utilizing power and hand tools/equipment such as grinders, sanders, soldering irons, and polishers.
  • Prior work experience in a role in which you were required to manipulate, bend, adjust and or sharpen/polish metal objects.
  • Willingness and ability to work overtime, weekend, and flexible shifts as required.

  • Cellphone/Electronics/Appliance Repair - You're used to working with small parts and pieces and enjoy taking things apart and putting them back together.
  • Nail Technicians - Yes, you read that correctly Fast, but detailed and intricate work, and you've likely used filling tools and sharpeners
  • Mechanic work - Car, Machinery, etc. you're curious by nature and enjoying troubleshooting until everything is back in working order.
  • Assemblers - Comfortable with repetition, used to following detailed instructions and diagrams.
  • Others include: Jewelry repair, Dental Lab Technicians, and Craft Hobbyist
