- Prepare main dishes, potatoes, vegetables, soups, salads, sauces and gravies; estimate food quantities needed.
- Prepare a variety of baked goods including pies, cakes, cobblers, cookies, breads and pastries.
- Operate, clean, maintain and store Child Development kitchen equipment and utensils according to proper guidelines; report needed equipment repairs to supervisor.
- Follow established procedures and menus in food preparation; measure ingredients accurately; make appropriate adjustments as needed.
- Monitor and maintain inventory of food supplies; monitor and assure adequate amount of food is available.
- Prepare food for special events and catered functions as assigned.
- Maintain working area in a safe and sanitary condition.
- Perform related duties as assigned.

Position Duties
BASIC FUNCTION:
Under the direction of the Site Supervisor, prepare meals/snacks in the Child Development kitchen for students.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
This position requires sufficient knowledge in proper methods of preparing, baking, cooking and serving food in large quantities. Knowledge of sanitation and safety practices and requirements related to cooking and serving food. Knowledge of operation, cleaning and maintenance of utensils and equipment. Knowledge of health and safety regulations. Requires the knowledge of standard weights and measures used in cooking and baking. Requires sufficient knowledge of record-keeping techniques.
Abilities
Requires the ability to determine appropriate quantities of food to prepare for the child development kitchen. Requires the ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions. Ability to prepare, bake and cook foods in quantity. This position requires the ability to operate standard machines found in child development kitchens. Ability to establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with others. The ability to assist in taking inventory and ordering food. The position must have the ability to maintain safety and sanitation standards. Must have the ability to prepare attractive, appetizing and nutritionally balanced meals. Ability to follow and adjust recipes and menus.
Physical Abilities
Requires the ability to stand for extended periods of time, bend, kneel and stoop. Requires sustained lifting of light to medium (under 25 pounds) and occasional lifting of heavy objects up to 50 pounds. Requires the ability to handle hot material and work in an environment dominated by wide temperature extremes. Requires sufficient hand-eye coordination maintain pace in a production setting, to use kitchen utensils and equipment, and move and position hot materials.
Qualification
Education and Experience
This position requires graduation from high school or the equivalent and one year experience in preparing foods in large quantities.
Licenses and Certificates
A safety and sanitation certificate may be required. Requires a valid driver's license.
Working Conditions
Work is performed indoors and outdoors where significant health and safety considerations exist from physical labor and handling of sharp objects, equipment, and materials in conditions that vary in temperature and stability.
