    Job Summary:


    Provides assistance and support to surgeons by preparing and providing instruments and equipment during surgical procedures in the Operating Room.

    Works under the supervision of the surgeon. Facilitates a safe, effective and orderly operating room to maximize patient safety.


    Essential Duties:

    • Demonstrates ability to problem solve in relation to the procedure being performed.
    • Maintain current knowledge of various equipment, procedures and supplies.
    • Adheres to proper surgical procedures of aseptic technique and safety in the use of instruments and equipment.
    • Performs instrument counts prior to each procedure and maintains an accurate count of sponges, needles, and instruments during the procedure.
    • Secures and prepares all supplies and instruments required for surgical intervention before procedures.
    • Ensures the preparation and maintenance of the sterile field in the OR.
    • Prepares patient skin for surgical treatment.
    • Position and re position patient during surgery.
    • Helps monitor patients during surgery.
    • Provide supportive care during the pre operative phase.
    • Performs scrub functions.
    • Ensures that specimens are correctly handled and routed to the proper source.
    • Maintains current knowledge of anatomy/physiology and medications used intraoperatively.
    • Keeps current with developments in the field through participation in seminars, workshops and publications.
    • Follows all federal, state and departmental safety procedures.

    • Two (2) years current experience required in large OR.
    • Must be a team player, flexible, and accustomed to fast paced environment.

    Preferred Skills & Experience:

    • Ortho, ENT and/or vascular experience a plus.
    • Epic experience preferred, but not required; can train on site

    nullRequired Education:

    • HS Diploma or GED and one of the following:
    • Completion of a Surgical Technician training program (requirement verified at interview) or graduation from an accredited school.
    • Certified Surgical Technician credential from either NBSTSA or NCCT + ten (10) years of experience.

    Preferred Education:

    • N/A

    Required Certifications & Licensure:

    • BLS certification required and must be completed through American Heart Association, American Health and Safety, or American Red Cross.

    Preferred Certifications & Licensure:

    • Certified Surgical Technicians (CST) through NBSTSA or Tech in Surgery certification NCCT.
