- Confers with school and departmental employees to determine purchase needs and specifications.
- Examines requisitions, adds relevant data and revises requisitions to expedite delivery.
- Assists in preparation and revision of warehouse Stock Catalog.
- Orders and maintains required levels of inventory for district warehouse.
- Observes federal, state, county and district laws, policies, rules and regulations related to purchasing.
- Locates sources of supply, compares costs and evaluates quality and suitability of supplies, materials and equipment.
- Keeps abreast of current and long-range market trends and probable availability of materials and supplies.
- Drafts specifications and bid documents.
- Analyzes bids and quotations; makes recommendations on awarding contracts.
- Provides vacation and temporary relief as required.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.

Description
DEFINITION
Under direction, performs routine purchasing of supplies, equipment and services required by the District; directs Purchasing Department in the absence of Purchasing Agent.
DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS
This is a single position class characterized by the responsibility to independently perform detailed work concerning procurement of material and services; coordinates the work of others assigned to Purchasing.

Must have at least four years of full-time experience in purchasing, preferably in public schools which involves processing of purchasing documents.
