This position manages, mitigates and improves highway safety and mobility through the effective planning, design and review of internal and external engineering plans and studies for construction and maintenance projects.

DESCRIPTION OF WORK A Civil Engineer (Transportation) in this unit collects and/or reviews information regarding roadway geometry, operation, road users, and environmental context such as the type, size, and location of traffic control devices; performs detailed analyses of the highway capacity and quality of flow, as well as the static, dynamic and material strength of highway components; and prescribes the approach to plan, design, construct or maintain highway safety and mobility changes, with emphasis on traffic control devices such as signs, pavement markings, traffic signals and motorist information.

Full-time employment

Work hours Monday through Friday 7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.

Must be willing to travel when required

Must be willing to work overtime when required

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY **Qualifications:**

**Minimum Experience and Training Requirements** - Successful completion of the Civil Engineer Trainee training program; **OR** One year of civil engineering experience in the appropriate specialty, and a bachelor's degree in civil engineering or a closely related engineering discipline; **OR** Four years of civil engineering experience in the appropriate specialty, and an Engineer-in-Training certificate issued by or acceptable to the Pennsylvania State Registration Board for Professional Engineers, Land Surveyors and Geologists, and an associate's degree in civil engineering technology or a closely related engineering discipline; **OR** Five years of civil engineering experience in the appropriate specialty, and an Engineer-in-Training certificate issued by or acceptable to the Pennsylvania State Registration Board for Professional Engineers, Land Surveyors and Geologists; **OR** an equivalent combination of experience and training.
