    Frankfort, KY 40621 USA Description The Kentucky Department for Community Based Services (DCBS) is a multi-faceted agency that provides servicesand programs to enhance the self-sufficiency of families; improve safety and permanency for children andvulnerable adults; and engage families and community partners in a collaborative decision-making process.

    DCBS seeks a Family Support Specialist who is driven to succeed in helping people and the vulnerablepopulation. The Family Support Specialist will utilize formal training provided to make eligibilitydetermination for various public assistance programs. The employee is expected to perform at the highestquality to ensure services to citizens.     Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
  • Interviews clients either face to face or over call services in order to determine eligibility for SNAP, Medicaid, and/or Child Care.
  • Uses documentation provided by clients to determine eligibility for cases
  • Scans documents into the electronic case files
  • Communicates with clients via call services regarding a variety of issues
  • Identifies other needs of clients and makes appropriate referrals to community partners
  • Participates in formal and on-line trainings to learn various public assistance program policies and procedures
  • Explains employment and training program which will assist clients in obtaining employment
  • Preferred Skills:
  • Administrative work, clerical office work and/or work dealing directly with the public
  • Experience in reviewing, monitoring, determining eligibility for and/or administering Food Stamps, theKentucky Transitional Assistance Program, Medical Assistance, Child Support or other public assistance programs.

Minimum Requirements EDUCATION: Graduate of a college or university with a bachelor's degree.
    EXPERIENCE, TRAINING, OR SKILLS: Two years of systems analysis, business administration, or public administration experience.
    Substitute EDUCATION for EXPERIENCE: Related technical or vocational training will substitute for the bachelor's degree requirement on a year for year basis. A master's degree in computer science, business or public administration will substitute for one year of the experience requirement.
    Substitute EXPERIENCE for EDUCATION: Experience in computer programming, systems analysis, information services, research and statistics, business administration, or public administration will substitute for the bachelor's degree requirement on a year-for-year basis.
