    Custodial Personnel are extremely important to the local school operation. The daily care of a district's facilities aids in the implementation of the academic program by ensuring a safe and healthy environment for the students, staff and faculty. (State of Arkansas, Division of Public Schools Academic Facilities and Transportation). General duties of the custodian are to maintain safety and cleanliness of classrooms, restrooms, hallways, administrative offices, gyms, auditoriums and any other areas inside and outside each school.

    Routine work includes, but is not limited to, the following:

    • Dust, sweep, vacuum, and/or mop floors daily
    • Wash windows as needed and clean window sills.
    • Clean the grounds.
    • Scrub, or strip, and wax floors as scheduled.
    • Clean and sanitize restrooms, fixtures, hardware, tile, mirrors, partitions, floors, etc. Replace restroom supplies as needed. This includes locker rooms.
    • Set up tables, chairs, etc., for school meetings, games, dances and any other events.
    • Report any light bulbs and fluorescent tubes as needed.
    • Follow a daily schedule, but may be interrupted as special events/situations occur.
    • Load and unload supplies and equipment. Must be able to lift at least 40 pounds
    • Effectively communicate and get along with other custodial staff
    • Clock in and out for lunch and breaks
    • Unlock and lock all buildings
    • Dust offices and items in the buildings
    • Sweeping and blowing off the sidewalks daily
    • Replace trash liners
    • Report any damage of school property or maintenance needed
    • Any other duties as assigned
    Custodian Supervisor
    • Perform all duties as listed above as a custodian
    • Substitute as a building custodian when a custodian is absent
    • Excellent communication skills
    • Debrief with the Assistant Superintendent
    • Walk through buildings and report to the assistant superintendent findings
    • Report all absences to the maintenance and transportation coordinator and have custodial staff to complete the proper absentee paperwork to the Assistant Superintendent's office
    • Understand the chemicals used in the buildings and complete the order with the salesperson
    • Order all supplies needed for each building
    • Order paper towels/tissue for the district
    • Properly use all equipment and train newly hired employees
    • Inspect the work of the custodians and report this information to the Assistant Superintendent
    • Check the grounds daily, pick up any debris and report repairs to the maintenance and transportation coordinator
    • Actively participate in summer clean-up along side custodial staff
    • Act proactively to support custodial staff
    • Effectively communicate and listen to the needs of staff and administrators
    • Other duties as assigned by administrators
