    Examples of Work

    The Marketing & Communications Specialist III is a senior communicator who will be responsible for:
    • Serving as a primary media point of contact and spokesperson, preparing and delivering strategic written and verbal responses to media requests and identifying proactive strategies to inform media, stakeholders, and the public on the mission, operations, and issues facing DHHS.
    • Advising DHHS CEO and division directors on complex, rapidly changing and potentially high-profile issues regarding DHHS.
    • Researching issues and strategizing key messages based on sound public relations approaches.
    • Composing news releases, speeches, presentations, web content, social media, and written correspondence.
    • Coordinating and overseeing the release of information such as division reports and newsletter.
    Requirements / Qualifications

    Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in journalism, communications, marketing, public relations, advertising, graphic arts, digital media, videography, or related field and at least three years' experience in developing, planning, and managing public relations/publicity campaigns, mass media communication activities, public information programs, and/or marketing/promotional campaigns. Required experience may substitute for the education on a year for year basis.

    Preferred Qualifications: In addition to the above requirements, non-profit organization or government experience and training in cultural sensitivity is a plus.

    Other: Must possess a valid driver's license.

    Knowledge / Skills / Abilities

    Knowledge of: the development, planning, implementation, and management of public relations/publicity campaigns, informational material preparation, mass media communication activities, public information programs; statewide and local media sources and operations; reference sources; inter-relationships between public information and administrative/program activities.

    Ability to communicate effectively with various individuals and groups; apply principles and practices of public relations to the operation of a public information function;

    Skills to apply strategic planning ability, crisis communications, and comprehensive communications effectively and work cooperatively with a team of professionals.
