    Job Summary
    Operate the two-way base station radio communications system. Receive incoming calls regarding emergencies, or non-emergency assistance within the College District and general public. Determine situation and level of priority. Dispatch units in accordance with established procedures and notify appropriate personnel as needed.

    Essential Functions
    Responsible for operating the district two-way radio communications system.

    Receive incoming telephone calls regarding crimes, disturbances, fires, medical or police emergencies, or non-emergency assistance within the College District and general public.

    Determine situation and level of priority and dispatch police officers and security personnel to situations requiring police intervention or assistance.

    Relay information and messages to and from emergency sites, to officers and emergency response personnel or other law enforcement agencies.

    Maintain contact with caller until responders arrive. Handle inquiries from officers on stolen vehicles, vehicle registrations, and request for traffic and criminal warrant checks on individuals.

    Provide onsite technical support to the Police Department; enter, update, and retrieve information from the National Crime Information Center (NCIC) and Texas Crime Information Center (TCIC) network and computerized data system, as requested.

    Maintain recorded details of telephone calls, radio, dispatches, and messages. Receive, mark, and store evidence for officers on pending criminal cases. Issue and collect vehicle and facilities keys from officers, security guards, faculty, staff, and custodial personnel.

    Observe and reset the building intrusion detection and alarm system and card reader access.

    Observe scanned maps of the district fire alarm system and video surveillance system which includes parking lots, buildings, vehicles, and individuals.

    Dispatch officers to check when necessary.

    Provide onsite clerical support by maintaining a variety of logs. Track room request activities, property control records, and inventory of police department property. Process and log background checks and assist with coverage of front office when short staffed. Issue temporary parking permits and equipment to students with disabilities. Receive and issue lost and found property and answer district phone calls after normal business hours.

    Perform other duties as assigned.

    Qualifications

    Required Qualifications:


    • A High School Diploma or equivalent and three (3) years of related experience.
    • Certified in Law enforcement information databases: National Crime Information Center (NCIC) and Texas Crime Information Center (TCIC) database, National Law Enforcement Telecommunication System (NLETS) by State agency or within six (6) months from the date of hire.
    • Must pass state and national fingerprint-based record check.
    • Must not have any criminal convictions as mandated by TCIC, NCIC, NLETS.
    • Ability to communicate effectively, both oral and written.
    • Ability to use radio communications systems.
    • Strong interpersonal skills.
    • Ability to analyze complex or difficult situations quickly, objectively, and act accordingly.
    • Ability to cope with situations firmly, courteously, tactfully and with respect for others.


    Special Conditions:



    • This is a security-sensitive position as defined under the Texas Education Code, Section 51.215; the successful applicant will be required to undergo a criminal background check, as permitted and/or required by applicable law, and in accordance with the College's policies and procedures.
    • Position requires working day shift, evening shift, graveyard shift and extended work hours to include weekends and holidays.
    • The El Paso Community College is building a pool of Applicants for part-time staff positions. This pool will be accessed when an opening arises. Your application will remain active for approximately one (1) year from July 2023 to June 2024. After this time, you will need to re-apply if you are still interested in remaining a part of the pool.

    Additionally, each foreign transcript must be evaluated for equivalency to United States accredited coursework.
