- Responsible for the maintenance of desk area and patient supplies and equipment according to designated standards
- Assures that each medical record is complete, in appropriate order, and current.
- Assures that all medical orders are transcribed in an accurate, timely manner and in accordance with unit guidelines.
- Files chart reports in a timely manner.
- Anticipates needs and prepares charts for admission, transfer, and discharge including copying appropriate information for discharge to other health care facilities.
- Utilizes correct medical terminology and proper abbreviations and uses proper abbreviations and symbols per procedures.
- Considers patient needs and changing condition to schedule tests and procedures accordingly.
- Works with other members of the health care team to prioritize tests and procedures when multiple requests are requested.
- Communicates clearly to other departments and services to assure they have all essential information including special requests and needs of the patient.
- Recognizes when different considerations are needed due to age, or cultural background.
- Notices and greets people as they approach the desk.
- Responds to everyone in a welcoming and positive manner.
- Answers telephone and responds to calls according to unit guidelines and customer service principles.
- Coordinates activities of the desk area to provide prompt, accurate and courteous handling of communication. Consistently answers patient intercom promptly and relays patient requests in a timely manner.
- Participates in orientation of new staff on the patient care unit.
- Demonstrates and shares knowledge of priority-based job responsibilities in an organized manner with the new staff.
- Demonstrates and shares knowledge of policies specific to FRH or include: patient confidentiality, safety/emergency procedures, infection control.
- Demonstrates ability to provide care or service adjusting approaches to reflect developmental level and cultural differences of population served

- Performs cardiac device checks (i.e. interrogations)
- Identifies and enters the patient information. Measures and reports intervals of the cardiac rhythm and other parameters at designated intervals. Reports significant changes in monitor patterns and follows the scope of practice expectations.
- Accurately recognizes and reports life threatening arrhythmias (i.e. Asystole, Vfib, Vtach) following department protocols.
- Collaborate with RN to ensure appropriate alarms are set based on physician order or individual need.
- Assure constant coverage of patient monitoring station.
- Maintains a high focus on patient safety by troubleshooting equipment problems
- Notifies appropriate person of needed battery replacement or electrode replacement in a timely manner.
- Demonstrates yearly competency in skills necessary to ensure adequate knowledge of ECG interpretation and maintenance of monitoring equipment.

- Provides rhythm strips printouts as designated. Accurately documents patient rhythms following protocols.
- Communicates reportable findings consistently and in a timely manner to nursing.
- Uses the chain of command to ensure patient information is communicated effectively
- Delivers handoff covering pertinent observations at end of shift or at the time of hand off.
- Assists in answering phone calls for the unit.
- Accepts direction/delegation from charge nurse.
- Inventories and maintains supplies needed related to equipment. Ensures equipment needing repairs is submitted to the Biomedical department. Tracks equipment. Keeps equipment clean and ready for daily use.
- Assumes an active role in mentoring team members.
- Uses knowledge and experience to facilitate the professional growth of existing colleagues and new team members.
- Basic Life Support (BLS for Healthcare Providers) certification required. Ontrack participants much be able to obtain Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers certification upon completion of the OnTrack program.
- Successful completion of Fairview's OnTrack Nursing Assistant training program or another Fairview sponsored Nursing Assistant program.
- Six months of recent direct care experience in a long term, home care or acute care setting. (Appropriate roles may include, Nursing Assistant, PCA, Resident Assistant or Emergency Room Technician)
- Current enrollment in an LPN, RN or Nurse Practitioner program, and completion of one (1) semester of clinical rotation within the program
- Current certification on the Minnesota Nursing Assistant Registry upon hire. This requirement does not need to be maintained throughout employment and is not required if subsequently transferring into another Nursing Assistant or Nursing Station Tech or Nursing Station Attendant position
- Basic ECG training, reading and interpretation at time of hire or within 30 days of assuming responsibilities

Description
OverviewFairview Health Services is looking for a Monitor Technician (Tele Tech)/Nursing Station Tech for the Medical Surgical Unit at Fairview Ridges Hospital (Burnsville, MN)
This position is a 0.6 FTE, working 48 hours per 2 week pay period. This position works 12-hour shifts, every third weekend rotation (Fri,Sat,Sun), and on the night (7pm-7:30am) shift.
