- Perform sample preparation using sectioning machinery and hand lapping.
- Prepare samples for chemical testing: crushing, sieving, weighing samples.
- Clean chemistry glassware.
- Learn other petrographic and chemistry laboratory procedures and skills.
- Conduct field, laboratory and office activities in a manner consistent with federal, state, and local environmental, health, and safety regulations and AET's Health and Safety Policy, and that promotes the safety and protection of employees, clients and the public.
- Properly use and maintain company instruments and equipment.
- Maintain the quality of service and work product.
- Coordinate with other AET staff with the ultimate goal of increasing efficiency, productivity and communication.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Geology/chemistry/earth science/civil engineering student or graduate preferred.
- Previous laboratory technician expertise preferred.
- Ability to interact effectively with a wide variety of people, work effectively within project teams, resolve issues and problems in a constructive manner, and work independently in the field.
- Ability to appropriately identify issues and/or problems that should be escalated to higher level staff.

Job Summary
With oversight and supervision (as required), perform sample preparation of construction materials (concrete, rock, aggregate, brick, mortar, etc.) for microscopic investigation and testing. Prepare samples for chemistry work and clean chemistry glassware.
