The RN Infection Preventionist assesses the quality of patient care and results concerning Healthcare Acquired Infections (HAI) and Community Acquired Infections (CAI) in alignment with all relevant laws, regulations, and Life Care criteria.

Gathers, organizes, and inspects HAI data. Delivers infection data and offers suggestions for next steps. Supervises staff adherence to infection control standards using protective measures and preventive actions. Organizes and gives educational sessions for the team, patients, and their families. Acts as a go-to person for all departments and staff.

Educational, Professional, and Licensing Prerequisites:

Nursing degree (associate's or bachelor's in nursing)
Licensed/registered in the respective State. Must retain an active Registered Nurse (RN) license in favorable standing throughout employment.
CPR certification required upon recruitment or to be obtained during onboarding. Must keep the CPR certification up to date during employment.
Additional Infection Prevention and Control training beyond initial professional learning or training prior to undertaking the position. If the resident demographics change at a facility, the IP should reassess their competencies and might need additional training to adapt to the altered care scope.
Previous experience with elderly care is preferred
State-specific certifications or training (e.g., Certified TB Nurse)

Key Job Specifications:

Acts as the assigned staff member responsible for monitoring Health Advisories from local, state, and federal entities, including the CDC
Acts as the on-site Infection Prevention and Control specialist for COVID-19 prevention and response procedures, following current CDC guidelines
Works on-site at the physical establishment. Cannot work remotely or carry out the IP duties at a different location like a corporate office or related short-term acute care center
Responsible for crafting and ensuring the success of the Antibiotic Stewardship Program
Keeps abreast of infection control trends, methodologies, and employee health protocols
Carries out duties within the boundaries of their licensing
Makes autonomous decisions when situation demands such actions
Proficient in Infection Prevention and Control methods and processes, and familiar with the legal framework, regulations, and directives governing nursing responsibilities at the post-acute care site
Implements and interprets the aims, targets, rules, and procedures of the Infection Prevention and Control Program
Performs adeptly in all relevant competency domains
Cultivates professional relationships with all colleagues, suppliers, etc.
Upholds the confidentiality of all proprietary or privileged information
Comprehends and complies with company policies, including regulations on harassment and adherence procedures
Demonstrates integrity and professionalism by abiding by Life Care's Code of Conduct and fulfills mandatory Code of Conduct and other relevant compliance training
