    Job Description: Performs skilled infrastructure/structured cabling work in the installation, service and maintenance, repair & alteration of low voltage category cabling, fiber optic cabling, communications cabling & other various low voltage cabling systems. Complete physical installations and removal of structured cabling components, cabinets, & pathway systems (cable tray), move equipment, racks, and related communications infrastructure materials.

    Position Details

  • Contract with possible contract extension or hire
  • Standard Hours : Mon-Sat: (Position requires flexibility in working hours, dispatch duties during days, evenings, weekends, & on-call rotations every other weekend
  • Location/Mobile: New Haven, CT or South/ South West Connecticut (travel radius up to 200 miles)
  • Valid Driver's License & a vehicle to support 6ft or 4ft foldable ladder
  • Travel Expectations: 2-hour radius from home
  • Primary Roles & Responsibilities
  • Performs installation & service of low voltage category, fiber optic, communications cabling, communication equipment & other various low voltage related systems such as Cat3, Cat5, Cat5E, Cat6 & Fiber Optic Structured Cable Distribution Systems
  • Evaluate, diagnose, & troubleshoot cabling infrastructure systems & perform repairs as necessary
  • Perform upgrades & additions to cabling infrastructure systems to increase functionality and usability
  • Coordinate with other Team Members within North American Commercial Services (NACS) Operations to complete projects/work orders efficiently
  • Inform operations management regarding procedures, and status of work orders to provide necessary information for making decisions, and/or complying with OSHA regulations
  • Completes required documentation via written or electronic formats via company standards such as time reporting for billing & payroll, work order progress & completion, time & materials for client SLAs, etc.
  • Requests equipment & supplies to maintain inventory & ensures the availability of required items, as required
  • Responds to emergencies during or after hours to resolve immediate client concerns & meet SLAs
  • Transports a variety of items ( tools, equipment, supplies, etc.) to ensure the availability of materials required at the client site
  • Attend meetings, workshops, training, and seminars to convey and/or gather information required to perform job functions
  • Achieve performance targets established by leadership for applicable Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)
  • Perform other duties as assigned by management.

  • Knowledge of hyper-terminal and putty for accessing network devices from a laptop
  • Must be available nights/weekends as the business dictates
  • Education/Experience Requirements

  • Associate degree or Certification in a technology services/technical discipline, or equivalent work experience preferred.
  • Minimum 2+ years' experience installing, servicing, and maintaining low voltage cable infrastructure systems such as Cat3, Cat5, Cat5E, Cat6 & Fiber Optic Structured Cable Distribution Systems
  • Proven ability to install, terminate & test, low voltage cables & fiber optical cables including twisted pair cables, coax, power limited tray cables, stranded & solid conductor low voltage cables, single mode & multi-mode fiber optical cables
  • Industry & manufacturer-specific experience and/or certifications preferred (examples: BICSI, Panduit, Commscope, Siemens, Corning, Leviton, Ortronics, AV, Fiber Optic, Paging, etc).
  • Comprehension of terminology about installation & service of cabling infrastructure for telecom, data, security & wireless systems
  • Working knowledge of industry standards including BICSI, ANSI, EIA/TIA, & local/National Electric Code
  • When required, healthcare-specific certifications & experience (examples: infectious control, safety, bloodborne pathogens certifications, etc.)
  • Comprehension of publications about standard cabling for telecom, data, security & wireless systems practices, engineering & Federal, State & Local safety standards.
