    Day

    Reports to Director/Manager of Cardiovascular Service Line.

    Assists Interventional Radiologists in the diagnosis and treatment of cerebral, aortic, and peripheral vascular diseases utilizing radiographic and ultrasonic imaging.

    Also assists the physicians in diagnosing and treatment of non-vascular disease; including but not exclusive to biopsy, drainage, and injection procedures.

    As part of the patient care team, performs as scrub assistant or circulator, and takes protective measures to safeguard patients and team members against radiation exposure.

    Interventional Technical:

    • Demonstrates competence in current Interventional Radiology imaging equipment.
    • Performs and reviews images for technical quality.
    • Correctly annotates images.
    • Competently performs reconstruction of CTA scans.
    • Completes all steps to ensure that images are on PACS and ready to read.
    • Enters accurate exam information into Radiology Information Systems.
    • Performs 3D rendering of cerebral imaging.

    Patient Care, Scrub, and Circulating:

    • Performs exams according to departmental policies and procedures as well as the Radiologist's individual preferences.
    • Displays knowledge of current inventory and ordering process.
    • Demonstrates accuracy with inputting procedural data and completing charges in Radnet.
    • Anticipates procedural variations based on individual patients and needs.
    • Demonstrates competence in creating, maintaining and working in a sterile field.

    Interventional Radiology Department Function:

    • Performs Interventional Radiology Procedures and Diagnostic Studies as assigned/requested by Supervisor.
    • Works well independently and is a participating member of the Interventional Radiology Team.
    • Co-performs, as point person with nursing, to maintain productive patient flow of the schedule.
    • Participates in on-call coverage on a rotational basis.
    • Manages time appropriately and is flexible to meet the immediate needs of the department.

    Miscellaneous:

    • Follows hospital radiation safety regulations, wears radiation badge at all times, and submits badge for monthly testing.
    • Responsible for providing a copy of current state license and ARRT registry to Human Resources.
    • Is responsible for accumulating continuous education credits to retain professional licensure and become familiar with new/updated procedures.
    • Renews CPR bi-annually with no lapse in certification and provides documentation to Human Resources.
    • Completes CBL's and skill validations annually as required by departmental policy.
    • Orients new staff and students.
    • Attends 90% of staff meetings.
    • Accurately badges daily clocking, Holidays, PTO time, and Call.
    • Performs other duties as assigned by the supervisor.

    Contribute to the overall effectiveness of the department:

    • Completes other job-related duties and projects as assigned.
    • Participates in and performs quality improvement projects as assigned.

    Associate complies with the following organizational requirements:

    • Attends and participates in department meetings and is accountable for all information shared.
    • Completes mandatory education, annual competencies and department specific education within established timeframes.

    • Maintains license/certification, registration in good standing throughout fiscal year.
    • Direct patient care providers are required to maintain current BCLS (CPR) and other certifications as required by position/department.
    • Consistently utilizes appropriate universal precautions, protective equipment, and ergonomic techniques to protect patient and self.
    • Adheres to regulatory agency requirements, survey process and compliance.
    • Complies with established organization and department policies.
    • Available to work overtime in addition to working additional or other shifts and schedules when required.

    Education and Experience


    The knowledge, skills, and abilities as indicated below are normally acquired through the successful completion of an ARRT approved Radiography Program.

    Maintain the registry in the ARRT and an Indiana State Board of Health license. A minimum of 1 to 2 years of job-related experience is required. One to two years' experience as an Interventional Radiographer desired. Vascular Interventional certification preferred.

    Knowledge & Skills


    • Position patients.
    • Practice aseptic techniques.
    • Knowledge of catheters and interventional items.
    • Knowledge of contrast media.
    • Be able to operate all standard radiographic and interventional procedure equipment.
    • Knowledge of Radiology Computer system.
    Working Conditions


    • Works in a hospital and patient care environment.
    • Must be able to report to work location within 30 minutes when On Call.
    Physical Demands


    • Requires the physical ability and stamina (i.e. to walk/stand for prolonged periods of time, push carts/wheelchairs up to 50 pounds, to position/lift patients at a maximum of 35 pounds unassisted, over 35 pounds requires assistance, provide CPR, etc.) to perform the essential functions of the position.
