    MHI Ship Repair & Services is a major marine repair and conversion contractor serving the U.S. Navy, Military Sealift Command, Maritime Administration and Commercial ship owners and operators worldwide. Our shipyard is conveniently located in the Mid-Atlantic region at the port of Hampton Roads, Norfolk Virginia.

    JOB SUMMARY: Supervises and coordinates activities of workers engaged in verifying and keeping records on incoming and outgoing shipments, preparing items for shipment and storage.

    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

    • Oversees incoming and outgoing shipping activities to ensure accuracy and completion.
    • Responsible for resolving issues regarding day-to-day operations.
    • Responsible for training and development of shipping and receiving clerks.
    • Identifies improved methods, and efficient and economical utilization of materials.
    • Ensures proper handling and storage of Govt. Furnished Materials (GFM).
    • Studies shipping notices, bills of lading, invoices, orders, and other records to determine shipping priorities, work assignments, and shipping methods required to meet shipping and receiving schedules.
    • Reviews loading operations to ensure compliance with shipping specifications.
    • Inspects material handling equipment for defects and notifies maintenance personnel or contacts outside service facility for repair.
    • Ensures accurate inventory of materials.
    • Directs movement of shipments from shipping and receiving platform to storage and work areas an oversees inventory process.
    • Ensures disposal of scrap is handled per policy when a job is complete, and vessel leaves the dock.
    • Ensures adherence to company policies, safety standards, and good housekeeping practices.
    • Establishes accountabilities and goals used for performance evaluation and trains as needed.
    • Travels to warehouse locations as needed to ensure proper operations.

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

    • High School Diploma or Equivalent
    • Experience handling GFM highly preferred.
    • A minimum of 7 years of shipping and receiving experience, supervisory exp preferred but not required.
    • Attention to detail and ability to work with multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
    • Must be computer literate and be familiar with the process of using a PC to record inventory, transfers, and shipments.
    • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills. Must be able to manage and motivate employees.
