Hiring Incentive - 3 Installment Payments $10,000 paid upon completion of the fifth full pay period $10,000 paid upon successful completion of field training program $10,000 paid upon successful completion of probationary period Description Under general supervision performs tasks and duties related to the protection of public health safety and welfare and the enforcement of applicable federal state and local laws provides traffic enforcement and control carries out special assignments in a particular phase of police work performs other related duties as required Patrols assigned areas by car foot motorcycle or bicycle performs crime suppression and prevention activities answers special calls conducts initial and follow-up investigations interviews victims complainants and witnesses answers complaints including domestic disturbances health code and local ordinance violations performs surveillance activities conducts chemical drug and alcohol testing investigates suspicious circumstances Enforces traffic laws conducts complete accident investigations controls directs traffic when necessary performs crowd control special event or riot duties assists in crime prevention activitiesand the control of juvenile delinquency counsels educates the community administers first aid in cases of emergency transports booksand is responsible for the care custodyof detained persons Trains assists less experienced personnel as assigned may serve as a Field Training Officeror in a variety of special program areas including schools liaison K-9 programs motorcycle traffic patrolor other specialized areas assignment May serve as adetective coordinates conducts complete detailed investigationsof crimes against persons propertycrimes involving vice gaming narcoticsviolations Performs undercover surveillancesactivities collects preserves maintains evidenceproperty Obtains processes evidence takes written statements prepares required reports maintains investigative records serves warrants subpoenas testifies effectively incourt proceedings provides information referrals non-criminal situations contacts cooperates with law enforcement agenciesas warranted Responds questions concernsrequests servicesfromthe general publicprovides information resolvescomplaintsestablishes positive working relationships community organizationsstate/ local agencies associations City management staffpublic The following are minimal qualifications necessary entry classification Education And/or Experience Any combination education experience provided knowledge skills abilities necessary PoliceOfficer Typical way obtaining required qualifications possess high school diploma equivalentbe21 years age sworn appointment Must have prior experience lawenforcement Successful completion some college coursework criminology policesciencesrelatedfield desirable
