    Summary:

    The VITA Volunteer Coordinator is responsible for the recruitment, training, placement, and retention of VITA volunteers. The VITA Volunteer Coordinator must be able to develop and implement a volunteer recruitment plan and assist and attend volunteer training to ensure volunteers receive the required training to obtain the IRS Certification. The coordinator will work with volunteer schedules and preferences for placement at VITA sites. Work with VITA Program Director to ensure volunteer coverage for a successful and smooth tax season. This position will require non-traditional hours and extended hours during tax training and tax seasons.

    Position Responsibilities:

    • *Coordinator will become IRS Certified at the advanced tax preparation level annually in order to better assist VITA volunteers during training
    • *Conduct outreach in promoting the program to other agencies by phone, email or via meetings, fair, presentations and other events
    • *Formulate and implement a volunteer recruitment plan to ensure that volunteer recruitment goals are met
    • *Coordinate with contracted IRS certified tax preparation trainers for the scheduling of training sessions
    • *Responsible for reviewing database and other data sources used for program such as Tax Slayer and Give Pulse
    • *Assist with the training of recruited volunteers per IRS standards to become certified and eligible to complete federal tax returns
    • *Oversee the assignment and supervision of qualified volunteers placed at VITA sites to facilitate effective and responsive services to clients, contractors, agency partners, and the community
    • *Maintain good record keeping of recruited volunteers through the web-based volunteer system and spreadsheets to ensure timely submission of reports requested by the agency and/or partner agencies
    • *Maintain good record keeping of IRS trained/certified and site placed volunteers through the systems set in place to ensure timely submission of reports requested by the agency and/or partner agencies
    • *Maintain good record keeping of volunteer hours through the systems set in place to ensure timely submission of reports requested by the agency and/or partner agencies
    • Other duties as assigned by Director.

    Requirements

    Minimum Qualifications:
    • Education
      • High School Diploma
    • Experience
      • Minimum of 1-year experience in working in an outreach capacity
    • License and Credentials
      • Reliable transportation
      • Valid driver's license
      • Valid vehicle insurance
      • IRS 13615 certified at Advance level annually or ability to test and pass to be certified.
    Minimum Knowledge and Skills:

    •Minimum of 1-year experience in:

    o Customer service

    o Computer skills

    o Proficient in Microsoft Office (outlook, excel, word, access, PowerPoint)

    o Basic math

    •Extensive working knowledge of advanced-level tax law, and IRS guidelines
    • Experience with computer software and online tax software (i.e., TaxSlayer software and Give Pulse preferred)

    •Must be detail-oriented, organized, self-motivated, and work well independently and on a team

    •Must have good written and verbal skills

    •Must have good critical thinking and problem-solving skills
    • Must have a clean driving record.
    Travel Requirements:

    Travel requirements for the position include 70% local and 0% overnight.
