    Job Description

    THIS JOB OPENING IS BEING USED TO FILL CURRENT AND FUTURE VACANT POSITIONS IN THIS CLASSIFICATION AT VARIOUS SHIFTS, LOCATIONS AND ASSIGNED DAYS OFF.

    ORDER OF PREFERENCE: The selection for Maintenance and Construction is made on the basis of fitness and ability with preference given to: Maintenance and Construction District, System-Wide (L689), Authority-Wide and external candidates, respectively.

    MINIMUMQUALIFICATIONS

    Education

    • High school diploma or possession of a general equivalency diploma (GED)
    • Successful completion of vocation or technical studies from an accredited institution in Electronics, Electro-mechanical technology, Computer Hardware, and/or Information Technology to include maintenance and repair of digital and analog circuitry

    Twelve (12) months after an employee achieves a particular grade level (i.e. Grades D, C, B, A and AA), he/she shall advance to the next grade level provided he/she has taken and passed the required written and practical test(s), acquired the applicable certifications and has met the other requirements, including fitness for duty, work record, and job performance requirements.

    Experience

    • Level D(Helper)
    • Successful completion of studies from an accredited institution in Electronics, Electro- mechanical technology, Computer Hardware, and/or Information Technology to include maintenance and repair of digital and analog circuitry
    • LevelC
    • A minimum of one (1) year of experience in electronics and electro-mechanical repair involving AFCS, or related equipment
    • LevelB
    • A minimum two (2) years of experience in electronics and electro-mechanics repair involving AFCS or related equipment, to include maintenance of digital and analog circuitry
    • LevelA
    • A minimum of three (3) years of experience in the repair, maintenance, troubleshooting, alignment, and installation of AFCS equipment. Experience in the maintenance and repair of complex digital circuitry, microprocessors and magnetic encoding equipment
    • LevelAA
    • A minimum of four (4) years of experience in the repair, maintenance, troubleshooting, alignment, and installation of AFCS equipment is required. Experience in the maintenance and repair of complex digital circuitry, microprocessors, and magnetic encoding equipmen

    Certification/Licensure

    • Possession of or ability to obtain a valid Driver's License and maintained for the duration of time in the job

    Preferred

    • College degree in Electronics, Electro-mechanical technology, Computer Hardware, and/or Information Technology
    • Technical Certification/Licenses in Electronics, Electro-mechanical technology, Computer Hardware, and/or Information Technology

    SUMMARY

    The Mechanic Technician, AFCS locates malfunctions and performs maintenance tasks on electronic, electrical, electro-mechanical, and mechanical equipment, including but not limited to Fare Gates, Fare Vendors, Exit-fare, and Station Operation Consoles. The incumbent follows a prescribed sequence of operations using designated applicable diagrams, manufacturer's specifications, equipment manuals, and appropriate regulatory codes. Assignments are performed within a shop/field environment following specified instructions, time limits, and acceptable quality of work while detailing results.

    Job Levels: At each successive grade level of this job (i.e. Grades D, C, B, A and AA), the incumbent is expected to demonstrate increased, distinguishing levels of proficiency and efficiency in knowledge, skills and abilities when performing the assigned duties and essential functions described in this job description

    "AA Lead" Level: In addition to independently performing the most complex aspects of the duties and essential functions described, the incumbent is responsible for ensuring work responsibilities of a group or team are properly completed in a timely manner.

    ESSENTIALFUNCTIONS

    • Performs inspections, repairs, adjustments, testing, troubleshooting, cleaning, lubrication, upgrades, installations, and/or preventive, scheduled, unscheduled corrective maintenance on assigned Automatic Fare Collection System (AFCS) equipment in accordance with wiring diagrams, schematics, operation manuals, and manufacturer's maintenance instructions. Troubleshoots and tests AFCS systems, subsystems, components and equipment using precision measuring instruments, such as meggers, multi-meters and oscilloscopes to test align, adjust, and calibrate circuits as required.
    • Observes mechanical, electro-mechanical, and electronic systems and components in operation to detect potential failures or locate source of malfunctions.
    • Dismantles devices and removes and replaces defective parts. Inspects used parts and equipment for changes in calibration, dimensional requirements and manufacturers' specifications. Tests and calibrates systems and equipment to ensure proper system operations using test equipment or precision measuring instruments.
    • Implements Engineering Modification Instructions (EMI) and Maintenance Service Instructions (MSI) to Automatic Fare Collection equipment, electrical, electro-mechanical, and mechanical systems.
    • Performs new component acceptance testing.
    • Completes required documentation and reports for the repair and maintenance of automaticfarecollectionequipmentandrelatedcomponents,usingtheproperforms,tags, or enters data into the Maintenance Database System.
    • Requisitions parts from the supply room as required.
    • Performs all tasks and assignments within the established safety practices and maintenance guidelines.

    OTHERFUNCTIONS

    • Attends on-the-job and formal training classes; assists mechanics in higher classifications in their assignments or provides job-specific training to mechanics in lower classifications.
    • Responds to, and provides assistance in, emergencies or incidents such as emergency snow removal.
    • May operate Authority vehicles between work locations.
