    Occupational Health Associate – OCU – 2 nd Shift

    We are looking for a talented Occupational Health Associate to join our Corporate Medical & Safety Team team in Columbus, IN with a starting pay of $ /hour.

    This is a second shift position (Monday – Friday from 3:00pm-11:00pm) and there is a shift premium of $1.50/hour in addition to the starting pay rate.

    In this role, you will make an impact in the following ways:


    Under direct supervision of a medical provider (physician), provide injury assessment and care to site personnel, manages occupational health programs per corporate policy, maintains health records as required by local regulations and works cross-functionally to solve complex problems.

    Maintains skills and knowledge required to perform job duties.

    Attends training required by medical providers.

    Actively support planning and maintenance of emergency first aid system.

    Determine gaps in compliance with all health and wellness policies, procedures and regulatory requirements.

    Maintain confidentiality and appropriate recordkeeping standards per corporate data protection and retention requirements.

    Builds an understanding of HSE culture, embedding within processes.

    Provide injury assessment and care to site personnel according to their level of training.

    Work as the site health resource and medical first responder.

    Stop work and immediately report any major injury hazards.

    Report any work-related injury, illness, incident or hazard and maintain appropriate documentation

    Support the Case Management process.

    Support health surveillance initiatives and requirements.

    Participate in and support ergonomic and industrial hygiene analysis and risk reduction efforts.

    Support the analysis of work related and non-work related health trends.

    Participate in health and wellness inspection and audit programs.

    Deliver on Objectives and targets.

    Drives implementation of corporate health and wellness initiatives.

    Organize health training programs and deliver according to certifications.

    Participate in site employee engagement initiatives to drive an interdependent culture.

    Updates site health and wellness policies, procedures and regulatory requirements.

    Follows all applicable standard work, process documentation and quality procedures.

    Raises issues to minimize cost and quality exposures.

    Performs quality checks as necessary/required.

    Identifies and controls non-conforming material.

    Communicates effectively with assigned teams and with all support teams.

    Completes training and personal development in line with business requirements.

    Participates actively in ways to improve quality, safety, process, material flow and employee development.


    Provides initial assessment and initial primary care for injuries and illness within the facility and on the grounds; provides medical coverage during disaster evacuation drills, disaster evacuation responses, spills, fires, and site special events; documents and files all responses as required; maintains medical information and records in a confidential manner.


    Administers injury management and return-to-work program for all site employees; liaises with Cummins clinic for work and non-work-related injuries and illnesses; manages the site's worker compensation program and coordinates with risk manager for claims management and case review.


    Manages site emergency response teams; facilitates monthly meetings; leads training; conducts drills and tabletop exercises; participates in incident investigations with health, safety, and environmental team members.


    Administers the site hearing conservation program, including audiometric testing and hearing protection training and fitting; administers site prescription safety glasses and safety shoe programs.


    Maintains Occupational Safety and Health Administration Form 300 log; initiates and assigns corrective actions once an incident has been reported; runs standard and ad hoc medical data reports for management; maintains medical data on a daily basis.

    Participates in monthly Southern Indiana medical team meetings; works with others to administer ergonomic programs and conducts workstation evaluations.


    Trains employees on first aid; participates in new hire orientation; coordinates the maintenance of and orders first aid equipment, medical equipment, and related supplies and services; train employees on blood borne pathogens; leads safety committee meetings; leads emergency response team meetings.

    Coordinates other health-related site activities such as Weight Watchers, blood drives.


    Coordinates related financial activities such as tracking charges and charge backs; interfaces with financial systems; manages the purchase order placements for the team; analyzes, compares and reports related financial data.

    Initiates, develops, leads, and participates in improvement procedures; actively participates in self- and team audits and resulting corrective actions.

    May develop and conduct training programs.


    Works within the team to identify team member weaknesses and gaps to bring the overall performance of the team to a high level of performance.


    Understands the structure of the organization and maintains a strong network across departments; draws on network to answer questions, solve problems and successfully execute responsibilities.

    Demonstrates confidentiality in execution of all responsibilities.

    Performs other duties as required to get the job done.

    Travel as required.

    Health, Safety and Environmental Emergency Preparedness and Response - Participates and coordinates the emergency action plan by applying relevant regulations and best practices in emergency management to effectively mitigate risk to life and adhere to regulatory requirements.


    Health, Safety and Environment Incident Investigation and Root Cause Analysis - Examines HSE incidents by completing quality, evidence based investigations with accurate root cause analysis, resulting in effective corrective actions, accurate reporting and avoiding repeated incidents.


    Occupational Health Management - Collaborates with health experts and employees to develop and deliver occupational health programs that maintain and improve safety, health and wellbeing.


    Work Related Injury and Illness Management - Communicates and documents work related injuries or illnesses through application of Cummins reporting guidelines and relevant regulations to classify and manage the event and its consequences as well as achieve regulatory compliance; cares for the affected employees by facilitating clinical treatment practices and applying case management processes to restore the employee to his/her normal condition.

    Education, Licenses, Certifications


    High school diploma or certificate of completion of secondary education or equivalent experience to the extent such experience meets applicable regulations.

    A two-year University degree from an accredited program in Nursing or related field of study required.

    CPR and First Aid training required.

    High school diploma, GED or equivalent required.

    Registered Nurse, State Certified Emergency Medical Technician or related certification required.

    Experience

    Significant work experience and in-depth knowledge obtained through specialized training and experience in occupational health or related field.

    Certification and at least two years of experience required.

    Compensation and Benefits

    Base salary rate commensurate with experience.
