    Northrop Grumman is looking to add a Field Engineer to our team of qualified and diverse employees in Edwards Air Force Base (EAFB), CA.


    The selected individual will join a small team with different and complementary specialty skills to learn and execute repairs and/or modifications to aerospace systems at the either a development location or execute them in the field.

    Must be proficient in understanding and following technical manuals and repair manuals.

    Must be able to communicate effectively with design engineers and work closely with other aerospace specialties when learning and testing the functionality of new repair procedures or processes.


    Expected to be part of a team that develops installation procedure steps and redlines engineering drawings for newly designed parts, components, and subsystems.

    Once the newly designed part(s) or component(s) is/are ready to be installed on operational assets, the selected individual will be expected to accompany the retrofit and modification team to the field where they will execute the install or repair and provide training or instructions to available technicians for follow on maintenance when required.

    The candidate must have a deep and diverse mechanical background in aviation systems and sub-systems.

    The amount of time spent in the field is expected to change with the amount of system modifications or repairs executed.


    The candidate must be willing to support a dynamic work schedule, willing to travel to potentially remote locations, and frequently respond to pressing needs on short notice.

    The candidate must be equally comfortable briefing a government customer, members of program leadership, and working closely with engineers and maintenance personnel.

    Excellent verbal and non-verbal communication skills are essential in this role.

    This position may be filled at the Associate Field Engineer or Field Engineer level, depending on qualifications.

    Field Engineer Qualifications:

    Basic Qualifications:
    Bachelor's Degree in a STEM field

    Internship or experience working with aircraft systems and subsystems

    Current DoD Secret clearance

    The ability to obtain and maintain program security access (required to start)

    Ability and willingness to travel up to 50% of the time between locations

    Expected to support precoordinated nights and weekends work


    Preferred Qualifications:
    Degree in Mechanical or Aeronautical Engineering

    Experience working in an aircraft manufacturing or maintenance facility

    Experience interfacing with a military customer

    Experience using NX, VisPro, MES, TeamCenter, and CATIA software tools


    Field Engineer Qualifications:

    Basic Qualifications:
    Bachelor's Degree in a STEM field with 2 years of relevant professional experience; an engineering Master's degree may be counted as 2 years of experience; 6 years minimum of relevant professional experience may be considered in lieu of a degree

    Experience working with aircraft systems and subsystems

    Current DoD Secret clearance

    The ability to obtain and maintain program security access (required to start)

    Ability and willingness to travel up to 50% of the time between locations

    Expected to support precoordinated nights and weekends work

    Salary Range:
    $58,000 - $87,000


    Salary Range 2:
    $70,200 - $105,200


    The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

    Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives.
