    We are looking for a Sweater Technical Designer - temp to perm for a top fashion company in New York City. The Technical Designer will interpret designs and create detailed instructions for our overseas manufacturers. The designer will ensure that the quality of products remains consistent with the brand and standards. This position is on site in the New York office.

    Responsibilities:

    • Creation of initial specs, estimated graded specs and dup comments proficiently
    • Approval of production specs and final graded specs
    • Accurately spec'ing garment prior to fitting
    • Coordination and monitoring of fitting in collaboration with Design department and vendor
    • Evaluation of fit, garment construction and layout
    • Identification of and resolution to any problematic issues on garment
    • Daily issue of technical package
    • Implementation of fit and layout revision by hand flat sketching, computer sketch or color copy
    • Corrections to knitting chart
    • Correction to pattern fit as needed
    • Accurate tracking and follow up on fit submittal
    • Meeting all deadlines for initial specs and fit approvals
    • Maintain awareness and understanding of delivery, shipping logistics
    • Review of production status on weekly basis to keep track of production flow

    Required Qualifications:

    • 3-5 years' full time industry experience
    • 3+ years sweater factory experience preferred
    • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, general PC skills a must
    • Photoshop/Illustrator familiarity
    • An understanding of all phases of production, from raw material to shipment
    • Expert knowledge in various types of yarn quality incl. natural and synthetic fibers (yarn behavior, shrinkage, color fastness, shedding, before and after washing, etc.) as well as understanding of gauge and yarn counts
    • Understanding of yarn dyeing process, washing process
    • General knowledge in various types of machinery used in generating garments
    • An understanding of various types of knitting techniques, embellishment techniques, accessories and trims
    • Understanding of woven fabrics
    • Understanding of basic patternmaking
    • Understanding of care instructions
    • Ability to work to deadline while maintaining accuracy and quality of work
    • Ability to work independently as well as in a team environment
    • Organizational skills and attention to detail
