The Collins Aerospace, Virtual Avionics Engineering (VAE) team in Cedar Rapids, IA is expanding due to increased demand for simulation training software that is derived from real-time aircraft operational flight programs and extended with ARINC-610 simulation features and customer driven requirements.

The retargeted simulation software models aircraft systems from low level data bus flows to high level peer to peer subsystem communication and is built on top of proprietary graphics drawing libraries and runtime executives. Resulting in high fidelity, optimized software-hardware solutions that range in applications from Windows desktop and virtual reality trainers to certified full-flight simulators.

This position develops and supports training devices and software from moderate to high complexity by leveraging the latest in PC high-performance CPU-GPU computing, gaming and display technologies for use in training and familiarizing flight crews and ground crews in the use of Collins avionics systems deployed in commercial airspace and military theaters.

Successful candidates should embrace competing priorities and technical challenges. We are looking for motivated individuals with a keen desire to create innovative solutions and contribute with reasonable oversight and sound judgement while self-learning, collaborating, and mentoring.

This is fast-paced, dynamic development that requires ownership, attention to detail, and teamwork skills that contribute to a positive and productive work environment for teammates and customers. Engineering methodology is a hybrid of Spiral development and Agile planning and execution.

We work directly with our customers to integrate and support our software in their training systems. Both domestic and international travel to customer sites and industry demonstrations may be needed.

The VAE team also builds lower-level training devices by integrating our rehosted avionics software with Collins proprietary simulation environments and COTS equipment, see the following links for examples:
