    NCS: Harlem Middle School ELA Teacher (2024/2025 School Year)

    Mission of NCS

    Our mission is to provide the children of NCS with educational opportunities through a rigorous, comprehensive K-8 program that cultivates the intellectual, social, and emotional development of each child. Our students, who include high-functioning children with autism spectrum disorders, will become independent learners and critical thinkers, will acquire the academic skills they need to succeed in college preparatory high schools, and will exhibit the social and emotional skills to reach their full potential.

    The Opportunity

    NCS is looking for teachers who are passionate about teaching Middle School students and have expertise in the specific subject areas being taught (ELA, Math, Science, and History). Teachers with a professional and personal dedication to student achievement, a growth mindset, and a willingness to give and accept feedback to promote professional growth are successful candidates at NCS.

    Job Duties & Responsibilities

    Building Relationships

    • Collaborate with co-teachers to improve classroom practices and support the school's goals and mission
    • Communicate and reinforce high standards for behavior and academic performance aligned with the school's culture and values
    • Cultivate a strong classroom community with students and families

    Intellectual Preparation and Instructional Delivery

    • Plan for and develop rigorous instruction and deliver it effectively to students
    • Solicit, welcome, and incorporate feedback to improve instructional practice
    • Reflect on teaching experience and identify areas for professional development
    • Maintain a secure learning environment with clear expectations and routines

    Data Analysis, Assessment, and Grading

    • Provide students with meaningful feedback and opportunities to show their learning
    • Measure student achievement and progress toward learning objectives
    • Analyze data, review scholar work, and implement instructional moves to ensure gains for all scholars
    • Participate in state-wide testing and provide necessary accommodations
    • Use data to reflect on lessons, student achievement, and improve instruction

    Differentiation and Special Populations

    • Understand the needs of all students and differentiate instruction accordingly
    • Employ teaching techniques for different learning styles to enable accelerated progress
    • Develop and implement individualized education programs and behavior plans

    Family Partnerships

    • Develop relationships with families through communication and support educational objectives
    • Communicate respectfully with parents/guardians, considering diverse cultures and needs

    Professionalism and Commitment to Diversity, Equity + Inclusion

    • Be a reliable, prepared staff member
    • Demonstrate a commitment to the school's values
    • Reflect on progress as an educator for continuous improvement

    Educational Background and Work Experience

    • Bachelor's degree (required)
    • NYS Teaching Certification (preferred)
    • One year of teaching experience in an urban setting (preferred)
    • Knowledge of students with disabilities, particularly autism spectrum disorders (preferred)

    Salary Range: $73,500-$95,000+
