    Position Summary:

    Under the program coordinator's general supervision, the Youth Behavioral Specialist supports youth to maximize the quality of his/her life experiences and inspire the confidence of the youth's family. The Youth Behavioral Specialist offers advanced direct-care skills and knowledge to youth needing the most behavioral health support needs. The Youth Behavioral Specialist supports the youth with activities of daily living and guides youth to be self-directed by teaching decision-making skills and encouraging independence as defined in each youth's ISP. The Youth Behavioral Specialist promotes the youths' dignity and provides ongoing supervision to ensure their health and safety. Consistent with training, formal behavior program, and company behavior-support guidelines, the Youth Behavioral Specialist intervenes to minimize the risk associated with youths' behavioral health support needs.

    Essential Duties & Responsibilities include the following:

    * Facilitates learning and independence for youths' daily living and social skills.

    * Provides access to communication and information from the environment in methods that are clear and understandable to the youth.

    * Forms a relationship with the youth that includes recognizing, understanding, and honoring the needs of the youth.

    * Periodic development and preparation of activities for the youth.

    * Completes work log of activities with the youth describing successful and unsuccessful techniques.

    * Provides technical assistance to others working with the youth.

    * Forms a working alliance with the family, neighbors, and professionals with whom the youth has contact.

    * Participates and assists in the development and implementation of the ISP.

    * Documents on areas identified as needs in ISP.

    * Reports accidents and existing dangerous conditions and observes safety practices in regard to the youth's needs.

    * Works from the written plan for intervention with the family and team members.

    * Transports youth to gain access to community services and resources required by plan of care.

    * Provides instruction and support for the youth in:
    * Meal planning and preparation;

    * Self-care and personal hygiene.

    * Medications that are normally self-administered;

    * Household tasks;

    * Money management;

    * Supervision in safety and security;

    * Interpersonal communications;

  • Meaningful daily schedules and activity routines;

    * Mobility, ambulation, and exercise.

    * Provides behavioral support.

    * Team work - encourages and facilitates cooperation, pride, trust, and group identity, fosters commitment and team spirit; works cooperatively with others to achieve goals;

    * Observes health, safety, and sanitation policies.

    * Follows all other rules of conduct and policies.

    * Enhances youth services and agency reputation by accepting ownership for accomplishing new and different requests; exploring opportunities to add value to job accomplishments.
