    OverviewAegis Aerospace is currently looking for a Human Performance Engineer to join our team in Houston, TX

    Overview:


    The primary function of this position is to support the Applied Injury Biomechanics (AIB) team at NASA's Johnson Space Center.

    The Applied Injury Biomechanics Lab (AIB) is leading an effort to protect crew from suited injuries, and working with providers to protect the crew from injury due to vehicle dynamics, and to certify the vehicles are ready for human flight.

    This can include assessment of suit & seat design, assessing a range of vehicle dynamics, establishing new injury metrics for crash dummies and using them in sled tests, full vehicle drop tests, and model simulations to help certify vehicles.

    Work related to suited injury includes tracking all suited exposures, modeling the human and the suit, identifying, characterizing, and developing mitigation strategies for suited injury risks, assessing incapacitated crew rescue needs, and suit requirement verification.

    This role will focus mostly on vehicle certification work, but may have some tasks related to suited injury.

    Are you ready to Innovate, Explore, and Protect?ResponsibilitiesWork with AIB Technical Leads to plan and implement operational evaluations to assess anthropometry, human factors, ergonomics, biomechanics, and/or risk of injuryAcquire and/or maintain knowledge of applied injury biomechanics related vehicle requirements, success criteria, and verification methodsAssist in the development of requirements and verification methods for lunar vehiclesComplete design reviews, research, testing, and/or data analysis for vehicle human certificationLead and/or assist with applied injury biomechanics support to at least one commercial vehicle provider related to the Artemis program or the Commercial Crew ProgramLead and/or support human in the loop testing to evaluate seat and vehicle designAssist with finite element model simulations to evaluate the loads and dynamics imparted on the crewmember by lunar vehicles; to include setting initial conditions, running the simulations in LS-DYNA, and data processing and analysisAssist with preparation of support documentation for studies, including project charters, Institutional Review Board protocols, test plans, test readiness review packages, etc.

    Assist with reduction and analysis of test data, including appropriate statistical methodsPrepare technical reports, manuscripts, and presentationsPresent technical results at internal meetings and scientific conferencesArchive data per NASA policyProvide inputs to weekly and monthly status reportsResponsible for compliance with Safety, Health and Environmental plan; must be committed to a high standard of safety and be willing and able to comply with all safety laws and all of the Companys safety policies and rules and must be willing to report safety violations and potential safety violations to appropriate supervisory or management personnelResponsible for compliance with the Quality Assurance Plan, policies and proceduresMust maintain regular and acceptable attendance level as determined by the CompanyResponsible for completing all assigned trainingDemonstrate a positive problem-solving attitude with an enthusiasm for working as part of an exceptional teamDemonstrate a strong work ethic and commitment to the customer and teamServe as a test subject for protocol and hardware evaluations on a volunteer basisPerform other duties as assignedQualifications


    REQUIRED:
    Must be a US citizen or lawful permanent residentBachelors degree in biomedical or mechanical engineering or a related engineering field, and at least 5 years of experience, or a combination of graduate-level education and experience are requiredExcellent interpersonal skills and demonstrated ability to work independently and as a team member; employee will be required to work and communicate with human test subjects, astronauts, and personnel across multiple JSC directoratesHighly motivated with developed organizational skills and ability to support multiple projectsAttention to detailUnderstanding of human performance capabilities and human-system interactionsExcellent written and verbal communication skills, both formal and informalStrong programming skills including MATLAB, Python and/or RStandard PC and Microsoft Office skills for preparation of documents and presentations

    Masters degree in biomedical or mechanical engineering or a related engineering fieldExperience with NASA standards and requirements or similar experience with a broad set of biomechanics, human factors, ergonomics, and anthropometry requirementsExperience conducting or supporting human health and performance researchKnowledge of occupational musculoskeletal disorders/injuriesExperience related to injury biomechanicsExperience with motion capture systems and analysis of kinematic dataExperience with bioinstrumentation and data acquisition systemsKnowledge of statistical analysis methodsExperience with CAD and human modeling tools: SolidWorks, Blender, Creo, etc.
