    Position Description

    These non-Civil service positions are part-time 19.5 hours per week. Positions are located system-wide.
    This position performs clerical and physical duties involved in day-to-day operations of a public branch or division. Health insurance benefits are not available. Successful candidates must pass an alphabetizing/sorting skills test.
    Must be able to work evenings and weekends.
    Typical Duties

    • Sorts and shelves library materials in the correct order.
    • Empties book depositories and helps prepare materials for re-shelving.
    • Maintains correct arrangement of materials by checking for proper sequence.
    • Answers directional questions from the public.
    • Clears tables of materials, straightens furniture, and replenishes supplies.
    • Adheres to library Customer Service Guidelines.
    • May perform other housekeeping duties as assigned.
    • May assist with library programs and computer services as requested.
    • May assist with opening and closing activities at a branch or department.
    • Requires walking, standing, reaching, bending, lifting book bins that can weigh up to 30 pounds and pushing carts of books that can weigh up to 100 pounds.
    Minimum Qualifications
    Eighth Grade Education
    Candidates with accreditations earned in a foreign institute are encouraged to apply.

    SO All employees of the Metropolitan Government shall be residents of the State of Tennessee or become residents of the state within six (6) months of employment as a prerequisite to employment with the Metropolitan Government.

    Preferred Experience, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

    • Skilled in dealing with the public
    • Ability to alphabetize and sort library materials by the Dewey decimal classification system
    • Ability to perform various clerical functions
    • Ability to receive and follow instructions
    • Bilingual language skills
