    Purpose:


    This position is responsible for managing the operations of a library branch and ensuring that customers are satisfied with the service they receive.


    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

    Supervises branch staff to include:

    prioritizing and assigning work; conducting performance evaluations; ensuring staff are trained; ensuring that staff follow policies and procedures; maintaining a healthy and safe work environment; and, making hiring, termination and disciplinary recommendations.

    Responsible for ensuring branch employees provide a high quality of internal and external customer service.

    Ensures that customer service is a branch priority and that all branch employees maintain a thorough knowledge of library resources, best customer service solutions, and how to serve all ages of customers in a manner consistent with system expectations.

    Ensures branch goals are in conformity with and support the library's strategic plan.

    Coordinates and oversees branch program design, planning and implementation and ensures that library policies and procedures are followed. Develops innovative programming to meet community needs.


    Oversees the branch budget and assists Library Administration with developing the annual budget by providing input on branch needs and funding.


    Ensures that branch staff receive consistent, continuous training on relevant library topics and resources in order to maintain appropriate skills for library employment.


    Actively participates in the duties necessary to branch operations, including but not limited to: collection maintenance and shelving library materials; serving work shifts in the public service area and providing direct customer service; leading occasional branch programming and outreach events; and, maintaining appropriate technological and professional skills through the completion of requisite training.


    Oversees the safety and maintenance of assigned facility, including submitting maintenance, janitorial or IT requests and ensuring timely completion of necessary repairs or adjustments.

    Manages maintenance and security to include ensuring that equipment, furnishings and building systems are in good working order and that the building is secured when the library is closed.

    Responsible for responding to security concerns during and after hours of operation.


    Performs liaison activities, attends meetings, responds to inquiries and makes presentations to other county departments, civic and professional organizations, customers and the general public.

    Actively participates in community organizations to promote the library's image and programs.


    As assigned, manages special services offered at the branch and maintains all necessary certifications and/or training related to these services.


    Creates or approves all necessary branch procedures or processes necessary to ensure the smooth operation of the branch and the adequate training of branch staff.

    Maintains up to date knowledge of system priorities and initiatives as well as professional news and trends.

    Performs other duties as assigned.

    Library service to include information and reader's advisory services, programming and collection maintenance.

    Operating a computer and applicable software.

    Communicating professional librarian topics and issues.

    Communication and interpersonal skills as applied to interactions with coworkers, supervisors, and the general public, etc. sufficient to exchange or convey information and to receive work direction.

    Education and/or Work Experience Requirements:
    Master's Degree in Library Science


    Four years of progressively responsible supervisory or managerial experience related to area of assignment; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above.

    Licensing Requirements

    State of GA certification for Librarianship – Librarian grade 5B

    Valid GA Driver's License.


    Physical Requirement:
    Positions in this class typically require feeling, talking, hearing, seeing, and repetitive motions.

    Light Work involves exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects.

    If the use of arm and/or leg controls requires exertion of forces greater than that for Sedentary Work and the worker sits most of the time, the job is rated for Light Work.
