    The Hartford Steam Boiler Inspection and Insurance Company is hiring Inspectors to join their Engineering Team!

    Loss Control Inspectors focus on providing quality inspections, engineering services, and business solutions to ensure customers avoid losses and recover promptly from any that occur on insured equipment. The Engineering department offers a range of services catering to various customers, from small dry cleaning operations to large utility plants:

    • Jurisdictional inspections of boilers and pressure vessels
    • Property-casualty inspections and surveys
    • Risk Assessment Surveys
    • Claims Investigations
    • Electrical risk management surveys

    This role involves fieldwork and is crucial to maintaining the quality and service provided to customers and their equipment. It requires a self-motivated individual with excellent communication skills and the ability to work independently with integrity.

    The minimum qualifications include a high school diploma and work experience with boilers, pressure vessels, or nuclear reactors. However, the required work experience can be substituted with an engineering degree.

    New inspectors undergo 12 weeks of intensive training to gain the necessary experience. Regular training sessions are conducted annually to keep inspectors updated with industry standards, supported by technical experts from the company.

    Qualifications:

    Required:

    • High school diploma and technical working knowledge of commercial equipment
    • Experience with operating, maintaining, or inspecting boilers, pressure vessels, and machinery
    • Basic algebra skills
    • Basic computer knowledge
    • Effective written and verbal communication
    • Meet the experience and qualifications for the National Board of Boiler and Pressure Vessel Inspectors commission

    Preferred:

    • National Board of Boiler & Pressure Vessel Inspectors Commission
    • Technical College Graduate
    • Engineering degree (BSME, BSEE, or BSChE)

    Physical Requirements:

    This role demands certain physical capabilities, and candidates must meet the following requirements:

    • Ability to navigate through confined spaces and climb vertical ladders and stairs
    • Capability to work at heights and withstand temperature variations
    • Able to walk 3-5 miles and stand for extended periods
    • Lift own body weight while entering confined spaces and lift equipment up to 50 lbs
    • Visual acuity of 20/20 and ability to identify colors
    • Hearing capability to recognize equipment operation sounds
