- Perform electrical installations, maintenance, alterations, and repairs.
- Plan electrical layouts, and calculate loads, line requirements, and balances.
- Perform diagnostic work and determine a solution.
- Oversee work by outside contractors.
- Consult with team members and supervisor as well as other bureau, division, and agency staff on the planning of renovations and installations of the electrical systems in projects.
- Perform other duties as assigned and needed in the Ames and other DOT locations throughout the state as needed.
- Three years of full-time work experience in skilled electrical work in the construction or repair of residential or commercial buildings.
- Successful completion of a standard electrician program at an accredited trade school.
- A total of three years of education and/or full-time experience (as described in number one), where one semester of an approved trade school electrician program is equivalent to six months of full-time experience.
- Successful completion of three years of an approved electrician apprenticeship program.
- Current, continuous experience in the state executive branch that includes two years of full-time work as a Trades Helper which involved electrical duties.
- Must be capable of operating forklift and other material handling equipment, and other heavy mobile equipment as necessary such as scissor lifts, manlifts, and other aerial platforms.
- Must be willing to work weekends and after hours performing assigned tasks, and must be willing to respond to on call requirements on weekends and after hours.
- Must obtain and maintain a valid Iowa Driver's License.
