    Job Title: Physical Therapy Assistant

    Job Summary:
    • The Physical Therapy Assistant 1, under the supervision of a licensed Physical Therapist, performs patient procedures, administers a program of therapeutic exercise/treatment, and provides instruction and demonstration for patients. Additionally, the Assistant maintains accurate documentation on patient progress. May supervise PTA students.
    Experience, Education, Training, Special Skills, and Licensure:
    • Education: Graduate of Accredited Physical Therapy Assistant program
    • Skills: Good interpersonal/human relations skills; Good oral/written communication skills; Good teamwork skills; Good critical thinking/decision making skills; Superior organizational skills
    • Licensure: Current Louisiana State licensed as Physical Therapy Assistant (temporary licensure allowed); BLS Certification
    1. Patient Care: This will have been satisfactorily performed when...
      1. Chart review is performed and follows the treatment plan established by the PT for every patient as evidenced by direct observation and chart review.
      2. Patient care is documented for each visit within 24 hours accurately utilizing approved hospital and department abbreviations, reflecting patient response to treatment, actual performance, and treatment summaries as evidenced by chart review.
      3. Non-routine changes in the treatment situation, discharge complications or other circumstances that require re-assessment or guidance are communicated to the primary PT immediately as evidenced by direct observation and per chart review.
      4. Patient care is conducted in a safe and effective manner as evidenced by no more than one incident report per year.
      5. The PTA will assist the PT in patient care, when necessary, as evidenced by direct observation, productivity reports and per chart review.
    2. Regulatory/Quality: This will have been satisfactorily performed when...
      1. The patient's pain rating is documented each visit with treatment modifications documented to reflect pain control measures, when necessary, per chart review.
      2. Patient Care documentation is recorded in timed intervals and corresponds to charged billable units as evidenced by chart reviews.
      3. As a clinical instructor for PTA students on clinical internship provides mentoring, supervision, timely feedback and written evaluation of student's skills as necessary.
      4. Patient Charge sheets are completed and placed in the Charge Sheet Box within 24 hours of the date of the charges.
    3. Interdisciplinary Teamwork: This will have been satisfactorily performed when...
      1. Ancillary and support staff is utilized as necessary and allowable to maximize productivity and enhance patient care at all times.
      2. Appropriately coordinates with patients, co-workers, and others to schedule patients in a timely and efficient manner at all times.
      3. Any necessary information, concerns, complaints or suggestions is communicated utilizing the appropriate chain of command.
      4. Appropriately delegates to and supervises performance of support personnel according to their level of training and in accordance with state law.
