- Plan and execute full machine tests and component, and system level tests.
- Operate test vehicles/equipment for test purposes as required.
- Select, calibrate, and install the correct instrumentation (load cells, pressure transducers, thermocouples, flowmeters, etc.) while ensuring all information required will be covered and there is integrity in the data. Prepare the data acquisition equipment.
- Evaluate machine performance, diagnose component and system malfunctions, isolate problems, and recommend improvements.
- Collect and analyze data. Identify trends or issues and gauge performance. Confirm whether the systems under test meet internal specifications, external legal/safety requirements, and our customers' expectations.
- Document results by crafting effective and formal technical reports that include conclusions & recommendations based from test data. Document non-conformance via JIRA tickets.
- Benchmark competitive equipment, confirming our product lines place us in a "best in class" position. Identify areas of improvement and quantify the gaps.
- Uphold company policies and procedures, contributing to a harmonious working environment and strong working relationships.
- Manage and execute testing protocols to effectively simulate real-world conditions and gather relevant data for product validation.
- Provide technical support to the Engineering department, working closely to align validation processes with product development initiatives.
- Oversee field test activities, including necessary travel, to conduct studies and ensure comprehensive validation of products.
- Supervise the setup and execution of tests to confirm product adherence to safety and performance standards.
- Direct the new product introduction validation efforts, ensuring timely and thorough testing in alignment with engineering specifications.
- Develop and maintain relationships with external test facilities and technical experts to enhance validation capabilities.
- Comprehensive knowledge of product validation practices, with a focus on testing for heavy machinery.
- Skilled in applying technical knowledge to support and enhance engineering practices.
- Strong communication skills to effectively collaborate with the engineering team and external partners.
- Capable of managing multiple validation projects under tight deadlines with a focus on safety and quality.
- Demonstrated knowledge of electrical, mechanical, engine, and hydraulic systems.
- Demonstrated root-cause identification and problem-solving skills.
- Anticipate and adapt to technological changes in the industry, ensuring departmental readiness for validation of new and existing products.
- Ability to coach, mentor, and provide direction to the Testing Validation Team, fostering professional growth and technical proficiency.
- The position occasionally bends, stoops, reaches, pushes and pulls drawers to retrieve and file information and lifts and carries reports, records, and other materials that typically weigh less than 30 pounds.
- Up to 25% domestic and international travel may be required.
- Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, mechatronics engineering, or a related field.
- 10+ years of experience in product validation, with a particular focus on mechanical, electrical, or hydraulic systems in the heavy equipment or material handling industry.
- 5+ years of supervisory experience with a track record of leading successful teams is essential.
- Experience with LabView, DEWESoft, INCA, or CANalyzer.
- Experience selecting, calibrating, and utilizing test equipment/instrumentation (thermocouples, pressure transducers, flowmeters, etc.) and data acquisition tools (DEWESoft, INCA, CANalyzer).
- A master's degree in a related engineering field is preferred.
