    Job Summary/Basic Function:


    The Department of History at Wheaton College in Norton, MA, invites applications for a one-year Visiting Assistant Professor position in modern US History, with expertise and/or teaching experience in African-American History, beginning in August 2024.


    The faculty member in this position will teach three courses per semester, for a total of six courses per year.

    The course load will include the first half of the US history survey (to 1877), the first half of the African-American History survey (to 1877), and an upper-level seminar for majors in Fall 2024.

    Spring 2025 classes will include the second half of the US history survey (1877 to present) and two other survey courses in modern US history (preferably including the second half of the African-American History survey class).

    All courses are expected to be taught in-person, on campus.


    In addition, the faculty member will be expected to offer three hours of drop-in, in-person office hours per week, attend monthly departmental meetings, and attend once monthly department events for student History majors and minors.


    Minimum Qualifications:


    The successful candidate must have a Master's degree and be ABD in modern US history at the time of appointment, have experience teaching at the college level, and have the ability to interact with a diverse group of faculty, students, and staff.

    Preferred Qualifications:


    The ideal candidate would have a PhD at the time of appointment in US history with significant experience teaching at the college level and ability to interact with a diverse group of faculty, students, and staff.
