PRIMARY PURPOSE:

The IISD Employee Childcare (Baby University) Lead Caregiver is responsible for supporting a safe, nurturing, and developmentally appropriate childcare program designed to meet the needs of children of Irving ISD employees.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Must be 18 years of age

High School Diploma or GED
Must pass a background check
Must test negative for TB annually
Acquire and maintain current pediatric CPR, First Aid
Must be proficient in English
Two (2) years of experience working with children in a preschool or child care setting (preferred)
Child Development Associates (CDA) or an Associate's Degree in Early Childhood (preferred)

Education/Certification:

Per the Texas Department of Health and Human Services (TDHHS), new employees of a childcare center with less than 2 years' experience must:

Obtain 24 hours of pre-service training

Obtain 24 hours of annual training
Have a high school diploma, high school equivalent, or high school certificate of coursework completion as defined in Texas Education Code, §28.025(d)
Acquire and maintain current pediatric CPR, First Aid
Obtain and maintain a valid Texas Education Aide Certificate

All required Child-Care Licensing training will be provided by Irving ISD. However, if you are hired outside of the district's regular hiring period, you'll need to complete your CPR certification and TB test on your own before beginning employment.

Special Knowledge and Skills:

Knowledge of Texas Department of Health and Human Services Child-Care Regulation minimum standards for child-care centers

Knowledge of developmental milestones of young children
Reports to work on time, is reliable for regular work and maintains good attendance
Ability to work flexible hours and demonstrate a positive attitude
Exhibits strong communication skills and the ability to listen attentively, receive feedback, and follow directions accurately.
Display strong organizational skills, effective time management, interpersonal skills, and enjoy being around children
Ability to effectively manage, guide, and mentor classroom aides to ensure a positive, collaborative, and developmentally appropriate learning environment
Ability to demonstrate a high degree of flexibility and adaptability
Ability to work effectively with diverse populations
Ability to communicate effectively with all stakeholders
Maintains confidentiality

Major Responsibilities and Duties:

Plan and implement activities to meet the physical, emotional, intellectual, and social needs of the children in the program.

Serve nutritious snacks and lunches as directed by the Child Care Director and IISD Food Services.

Ensures all equipment, activities, and facilities are safe, well-maintained, clean, and appropriate for a positive learning environment.

Plans and implements daily schedules and lesson plans for assigned classrooms, ensuring all activities are age-appropriate and meet the developmental needs of each child.

Ensure all assigned children are supervised at all times.

Provide a variety of appropriate experiences and activities for children including songs, games, and storytelling.

Provide and supervise opportunities for sleep and rest time as directed.

Enhance and support the self-esteem of all students in the learning center.

Establishes and maintains an orderly classroom environment through consistent routines, positive guidance, and appropriate discipline.

Provide a safe, comfortable, and secure environment for children.

Clearly, positively, and effectively communicate in a manner that children understand.

Keep the director informed of any special needs or concerns of individual children.

Report suspected child abuse and neglect to the appropriate administrator and law enforcement agencies according to guidelines in the Texas Family Code

Collaborate in the planning and implementation of activities and assigned curriculum.

Keep parents informed of on-going program expectations, program activities, and their child's progress.

Routinely update parents in the child care management system of daily activities such as toileting , snacks, lunch, sleep, etc.

Develop and maintain current, accurate, and confidential student files.

Participate in in-service training, collaborative team meetings, staff meetings and special events as required.

Maintains up-to-date knowledge of and ensures compliance with federal, state, and school district policies and regulations relevant to primary job responsibilities.

Maintain health and safety standards in the classroom.

Clean and disinfect toys, furniture, cots/cribs, and classrooms.

Ensure that all furniture is safe and cleaning products and medicines are kept in a safe place, away from children.

Maintain each child's attendance, academic, and behavioral records.

Be available to speak to parents about a child's progress and challenges throughout the year.

Display professional communication with students, parents, community members, staff, and other professionals at all times.

Ensure superior customer care skills are used via eye contact, facial expressions, voice inflections, body language, and an attitude of "going the extra mile" for others.

Ensure all requests for information are dealt with in an appropriate time frame.

Create and maintain a welcoming, service-oriented environment toward all internal and external stakeholders.

Performs additional duties and assumes other responsibilities as assigned to support the overall operation and success of the program.

Clerical:

Maintains a developmental profile folder for individual classroom students

Maintains records of individual students and keeps anecdotal notes as needed
Compiles, maintains, and files instructional materials
Possess basic computer skills in order to effectively use a variety of digital tools.

Working Conditions:

Metal demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors: Maintain emotional control under stress. Frequent standing, stooping, bending, kneeling, pushing, and pulling may be required. May be required to lift up to 30 pounds without assistance.

Safety: Contribute to the prevention of accidents and injuries by observing safety rules and District policy, practicing the principles and skills taught in safety training, wearing personal protective equipment as required, reporting injuries and incidents immediately to a supervisor, and being proactive in the ongoing efforts to improve and maintain workplace safety.
