    Nature of Work

    The CDU2 psychiatrist will provide direct patient care in the emergency department. The psychiatrist is responsible for collaborating with other emergency department faculty and staff, other CDU2 psychiatrists, and APPs. The psychiatrist will also oversee residents and medical students rotating through the service.

    This position will include hour clinical shifts per 28-day period (including some nights and weekends) - i.e., 36 hrs/wk = 1.0 FTE.

    The CDU2 psychiatrist will be exempt from the regular Department of Psychiatry call schedule.


    This position involves evaluating and treating behavioral emergencies and substance intoxication and withdrawal in the emergency department alongside a team of behavioral health evaluators, nurses, emergency medicine physicians, APPs, residents, and medical students.


    Please note, this is an open rank position and could be categorized as Clinical Instructor, Clinical Senior Instructor, Clinical Assistant Professor, Clinical Associate Professor or Clinical Professor based on experience and qualifications as indicated below.

    Examples of Work Performed

    The duties and responsibilities of the position include, but are not limited to:


    • Participate in attending rotation in ED service with flexible hours (including some weekends and nights)
    • Determining the appropriate treatment of patients, monitoring them as needed, and determining disposition.
    • This position requires familiarity with the use of chemical restraints, emergency medications, seclusion/restraint procedures, pharmacology for acute agitation, risk assessment, and treatment of substance intoxication and withdrawal.
    • The CDU2 psychiatrist should be comfortable managing comorbid medical conditions via collaboration with the main emergency department attendings.
    • Actively Contributes to Academic Advancement of his/her discipline
    • Keeps abreast of the latest developments in field, both academically and through applied skills

    This position reports to the University of Colorado Hospital Director of Service

    Supervision Exercised

    This position will supervise CDU2 APPs, psychiatry residents, and medical students.

    Salary Offered or Salary Range

    MD and/or DO

    Instructor:
    The salary range (or hiring range) for this position has been established at $200,000 to $215,000.

    Senior Instructor:
    The salary range (or hiring range) for this position has been established at $200,000 to $215,000.

    Assistant Professor:
    The salary range (or hiring range) for this position has been established at $200,000 to $215,000.

    Associate Professor:
    The salary range (or hiring range) for this position has been established at $220,000 to $245,000.

    Professor:
    The salary range (or hiring range) for this position has been established at $250,000 to $300,000.


    The salary of the finalist(s) selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty and training.

    Minimum Qualifications

    Instructor: 1-3 years of clinical experience at rank or equivalent experience


    Minimum degree qualifications:
    MD, CO Physician License or Eligible for CO Physician License. Board Certified, Eligible, or Eligible by the time of hire in Psychiatry.

    Senior Instructor:
    1-3 years of clinical experience at rank or equivalent experience


    Minimum degree qualifications:
    MD, CO Physician License or Eligible for CO Physician License. Board Certified, Eligible, or Eligible by the time of hire in Psychiatry.

    Assistant Professor:
    1-3 years of clinical experience at rank or equivalent experience


    Minimum degree qualifications:

    Associate Professor:
    4-7 years of clinical experience at rank or equivalent experience
