    SALARY &


    BENEFITS:
    Salary placement based on education and verified contracted teaching experience accepted


    Salary Range:
    $53,283.00 to $81, Employer-paid retirement, health and life insurance, sick leave benefits and personal leave.

    Bilingual preferred.

    Must be able to pass the pre-employment drug screen test.

    This is a replacement position.

    Job Title:
    School Mental Health Professional (SMHP)

    • Job Goal and Purpose:

    The School Mental Health Professional (SMHP) promotes and enhances the overall academic mission by providing services that strengthen home, school and community partnerships and address barriers to learning and achievement.

    The SMHP will contribute to the development of a healthy, safe and supportive environment which is achieved by advancing the understanding of the emotional and social development of children and influences of family, community and cultural differences on student success.

    II.

    General Job Description and Performance Responsibilities:


    The SMHP's principal task is to empower students, families and school personnel to access available opportunities and resources that develop each student's potential.

    SMHAs will concentrate on students' academic, behavioral, and emotional needs and will provide services, support, advocacy, and resources that will help to empower students to increase their academic potential.


    The SMHP will interface with the educational process and meet the needs of schools, students, and families in the Carson City School District.

    Using a strengths-based and system-wide approach, SMHPs focus on prevention and intervention by facilitating engagement between schools, families, and the community.

    SMHPs address the District's Strategic Plan imperatives by providing services to students and families, linking children, youth, and families to community agency resources, and aligning services to meet the educational needs of all students.

    This person will be expected to adhere to the Carson City School District School Board Policies and Regulations. This person will report to the School's Principal.

    Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
    The SMHA's essential job duties and responsibilities will include, but may not be limited to:


    • ASSESSMENT OF STUDENT, FAMILY AND SCHOOL NEEDS
    • Conducts, coordinates or uses assessments to develop appropriate interventions for students, families, and schools.
    • Uses student, family, and school assessment results to identify needs that affect student learning.
    • Develops and applies long and short term intervention plans consistent with curriculum, student needs, strengths and social and emotional factors.
    • Uses a variety of appropriate formal and informal tools and techniques including observation and motivational interviewing to evaluate the needs, progress, and performance of students and families.
    • DIRECT SERVICES/SERVICE DELIVERY
    • Promotes family support of students' learning experience within the context of multicultural understanding and competencies.
    • Provides series to students in ways that build upon individual strengths and offers students maximum opportunities to participate in the planning and direction of their own learning experiences.
    • Develops and provides training and educational programs that addresses the goals and mission of the school.
    • Assist teachers with behavioral management and intervention.
    • Based on case-by-case needs, conduct home visits and meet with families.
    • ADVOCACY
    • Advocates for appropriate services for students and families, including but not limited to academic, educational, medical, social, emotional, and behavioral.
    • Assists students and families in gaining access to formal and informal community resources.
    • Utilizes current research, technology and other resources to assist students, families, schools and communities in developing life skills necessary to be successful.
    • CONSULTATION AND COLLABORATION
    • Consultant with principals, teachers on issues such as attendance, mental health, behavioral management, crisis intervention, homelessness, child abuse and neglect, etc.
    • Initiates and supports activities to overcome institutional barriers in gaps and services as leaders and members of interdisciplinary teams.
    • Promotes collaboration among and access to service providers, which may include but not be limited to community health, mental health, addictions, juvenile justice, child welfare and faith-based agencies.
    • Assist the district's special projects coordinator with McKinney-Vento Students in Transition Program in their schools.
    • PLANNING, IMPLEMENTATION AND EVALUATION
    • Develops, maintains and monitors written plans that encourages student success.
    • Plans or participates in the development of system-wide programs to promote a safe, healthy and caring school climate.
    • Assists the school and the community in planning programs to mitigate situations that may interfere with the learning process of students.
    • Assists in the evaluation of effective departmental, school-based, system and community programs.

    Position Requirements:
    An eligible School Mental Health Professional for Carson City School District (CCSD) employment is defined as a:


    • Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW)
    • Licensed Social Worker (LSW)
    • Marriage and Family Therapist (MFT)
    • Mental Health Counselor (MHC)
    • Clinical Professional Counselor (CPC)
    • School Counselor

    Education and Training:
    Master's degree from a four-year college or university and experience working in a K-12 setting.


    Licenses and Certifications:

    • Must possess a license issued by the Nevada Board of Examiners for Social Workers, either as an LCSW or LSW and obtain a license with the Nevada Department of Education; or
    • Must possess an MFT, MHC, CPC, or School Counseling License and obtain a license with the Nevada Department of Education.

    Physical Demands and Working Conditions:

    Strength:

    Sedentary/Medium - Exert force 50 lbs., frequently, and up to 10-25 lbs., constantly or a negligible amount of force frequently to lift, carry, push, pull or move objects.

    Frequent reaching, handling, fingering, talking and hearing


    Vision:
    Frequent near acuity and occasional far acuity. Mobility to work in a typical office setting and use standard office equipment. Vision to read printed materials. Hearing and speech to communicate in person or over the telephone.

    Must report to work on campus\\assigned site.
