    PURPOSE OF CLASSIFICATION:


    The purpose of this job is to maintain the 24x7 software systems used within the City of Atlanta Fire Rescue department.


    Duties include, but are not limited to:
    providing 24x7 on call and occasional weekend maintenance, maintains smooth operation of multi-user computer systems, including coordination with network administrators .This is an experienced professional level(Intermediate} capable of carrying out most assignments typical of the profession with limited guidance or review.

    This level would be considered promotional and attainable by any incumbents in a work group who demonstrate the necessary knowledge, ability and performance.

    Could be the only professional of this specialty in a work group.

    Supervision Received

    Performs work under general supervision with review and advice from manager or a senior level professional.

    Essential Duties and Responsibilities

    The following duties are normal for this job. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive. Other duties may be required and assigned. May be required to be on-call and/or participate in rotating on-call schedule. May perform other duties as assigned.

    Sets up administrator and service accounts within the IT system. Maintains system documentation.

    Tunes system performance.

    Installs system wide software and allocates mass storage space.

    Interacts with users and evaluates vendor products.

    Assists in making recommendations to purchase hardware and software and coordinating installation and back up recovery.

    Performs work under general supervision with review and advice from manager or senior level professional.

    Leadership Provided

    Informal or review, may be informal team leader or may review work of less experienced professionals or support staff.

    Minimum Qualifications – Education and Experience

    Bachelor's degree in computer science or engineering (equivalent professional experience may be considered 2 years' of specific network experience.

    Preferred Education & Experience

    Master's degree in computer science or engineering (equivalent professional experience may be considered for substitution for the master's degree on an exception basis) with 2-4 years' of directly related

    professional work.


    Interpersonal Relations:
    Assists alarm and switch board operators, dispatchers, officers and other personnel with technical problems.


    Cooperates with federal, state, and local law enforcement agencies and its officers or representatives when their activities or investigations are related to on-going investigations being conducted by the Atlanta Fire Department; works to achieve the highest level of cooperation and efficiency possible.
