- Oversee day-to-day operations for your service area and provide direct supervision. Provide leadership to ensure you and your team are always looking for opportunities to have library patrons feel welcome and connected to library materials and services.
- Play a leadership role in fostering a culture that embraces change, innovation, and continuous improvement. Supervise assigned staff and deliver outstanding customer service.
- Plan, promote and present dynamic and relevant library programming and community outreach. Perform outreach activities to local schools, community agencies and organizations.Oversee collection development in your area including the selection, ordering and weeding of books, E-resources, media and other library materials.
- Create and administer website content for your area as well as social media outreach, promotional content, and community outreach activities as appropriate.
- Assist Library Director in implementing goals and objectives in all plans for library services.
- Know and understand the American Library Association's Library Bill of Rights, Freedom to Read Statement and Freedom to View Statement, recognizing that freedom of access is a fundamental tenet of a public library.
- Follow all legal and policy requirements related to patron privacy and custodianship of patron records.
- Other activities as assigned.
- College degree in Library Science or a closely related field; MLS or equivalent required.
- 2+ years of progressively responsible library managerial experience and/or administrative functions of a library, or equivalent knowledge preferred.
- 2+ years supervisory experience preferred.
- Ability to prioritize and complete multiple tasks and meet deadlines. Good organizational, time management and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with individuals and groups, both professional and nonprofessional, co-workers, management personnel, and the public.
- Proficiency in MS Office suite including Excel, Word and Powerpoint.
- Excellent listening, communication, and presentation abilities.
- Excellent customer service skills.
- Ability to understand sensitive relationships and underlying politics in client interactions.
- Ability to work a flexible schedule which may include some weekend and evening work.
- Fast paced public library. Self-starter with ability to work in a self-directed environment with minimal guidance.
- Ability to move from place to place within the location; lift, push/pull, hold/carry of items weighing up to (25) pounds and occasional up to (35) pounds such as files, books, stacks of paper, and other materials.
- Ability to sit for long periods of time and to maintain focus on projects such as computer screens or detailed paperwork.
