    Job Title & Specialty Area: Respiratoory Care Practitioner

    This position involves performing the functions of a respiratory care practitioner in direct care. The incumbent utilizes the respiratory care process in the delivery of developmentally appropriate care and works effectively with members of the health care team, including the family, to provide care to patients.

    Responsibilities:

    • Demonstrates competence in professional practice by utilizing established standards of evidence-based care to guide practice.
    • Provides direct patient care including but not limited to mechanical ventilation, aerosol therapy, pulmonary hygiene, suctioning, oxygen therapy, and inhaled gases.
    • Documents patient status, patient response, and respiratory practitioner interventions accurately and clearly.
    • Provides and reinforces health teaching with patients and families.
    • Participates in multidisciplinary treatment teams.
    • Serves as a preceptor for novice therapists.

    Key Requirements:

    • At least 2 years of job-related experience preferred.
    • A two-year Associate's degree or equivalent experience required.
    • A four-year Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience preferred.
    • BLS certification required.
    • NRP (Plano and NICU core) certification required within 180 days.
    • PALS certification (excluding DPMSC Pulmonary Dept.) required within 180 days.
    • RRT recognized by the National Board of Respiratory Care (NBRC) and active Texas license required.
