McPhee Electric, Ltd is actively seeking a Senior Substation Estimator for our Utilities Division located in Farmington, CT who will prepare estimates for projects involving utilities work & new substation construction.

In addition, you will provide technical, administrative support, RFQ's for civil/building construction to project operations with emphasis on estimating, reporting and monitoring progress, planning and scheduling, and dealing with project estimate presentations.

Understand and execute labor and material take-offs for substation work

Understand and monitor program of work to ensure estimates are completed prior to deadlines

Participate in estimate review process with internal and external customers

Prepare estimates of probable costs of materials, labor and equipment for construction projects based on contract bids, quotations, schematic drawings and specifications

Advise on quoting procedures, examine and analyze quotes, recommend quote awards and conduct negotiations

Establish and maintain quoting process, set up cost monitoring, reporting systems and procedures

Coordinate RFQs packages with suppliers, subcontractors, owners, designers and architects regarding scopes of work

Attend site visits as required

Obtain material pricing for estimates

Prepare project cost breakdowns on estimates

Coordinate and assist in getting subcontractor quotes as needed

Prepare complete cost estimates for utility work and new substation construction projects

Coordinate the assembly of estimate turnover once awarded

Prepare in project turnover meeting once awarded

Required minimum skills and experience

Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering and/or Construction Management is preferred

5 years working experience around or in substations

10+ years of experience in the Utility Industry and/or possessing minimum 5-10 years estimating experience and knowledge of utility projects and new substation construction is required

Must possess experience in understanding blueprints, specifications, proposals, and other documentation to prepare time/cost/labor estimates for projects and services

Must be capable using MS applications (Word, Excel and Accubid Estimating Software)

Organizational, leadership, communication, and analytical skills are required
