Senior Accountant
Job Summary:
The Staff Accountant will prepare and maintain financial records to track the organization's assets, liabilities, profit and loss, tax liabilities, and other related financial activities.
Duties/Responsibilities:
Maintains the fixed asset subledger, including construction-in-progress records.
Ensures items are appropriately capitalized and in a timely manner.
Prepares capital project schedules and reports.
Monitors construction and renovation projects.
Reconciles spending to underlying invoices/contracts as well as to the general ledger, in a timely manner.
Prepares monthly journal entries for prepaids, development revenue, investments, cash account interest, fixed assets, payroll, and accrued expenses, in accordance with the monthly close schedule.
Maintains monthly accounts and entries- contribution accounts, record journal entries, spreadsheets, and reconciles to GL, PMA, and appropriate bank(s).Records, maintains, and updates investment funds and reporting.
Reconciles general ledger/subsidiary accounts monthly, in a timely manner.
Prepares related financial reports for the monthly and year end close.
Assists in the oversight of accounts payable and accounts receivable (donor contributions).
Compiles and prepares
information/worksheets
for outside auditors.
Assists with regulatory reporting, including 1099's, unclaimed property reporting and state filings.
Assists with the preparation of the annual budgets for review.
Prepares and distributes monthly and/or quarterly actual vs. budget expense reports to dept. directors.
Exhibits exceptional problem-solving abilities, organizational skills, and strong attention to detail.
Demonstrates creative thinking about solutions and exhibits effective communication with all staff throughout the department and company.
Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
Required Skills/Abilities:
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
Knowledge of general financial accounting and cost accounting.
Understanding of and the ability to adhere to generally accepted accounting principles.
Ability to correctly prepare tax reports.
Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite, including Excel.
Proficient in Sage Accounting Software.
Must have the ability to function optimally in a stressful environment, and the ability to remain calm in emotionally charged situations.
Education and Experience:
Bachelor's degree in accounting, or related field, required.
At least five years of related experience required.
Experience in a Healthcare setting.
Active CPA License
Physical Requirements:
Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.
