    Position Summary

    A graduate faculty facilitator, Associate Lecturer, is responsible for the instructional development adapted from instructional materials in the provided syllabus, delivery and assessment of one of the IPSE academic programs, including the Director of Instruction programs, Educational Leadership programs, Learning Community programs, Reading programs, and the Professional Learning Community (PLC) Certificate program.

    For all of our cohorts, blended, face-to-face, and online, a facilitator will deliver the curriculum in a spiraled and integrated fashion.


    Responsibilities also include:

    commitment to the program's professional development activities (the September Retreat, the February Retreat, and the Fall for Education Conference), student advising, and use of the UWL online communication tool known as Canvas.

    In addition, facilitators are expected to support and uphold the Institute for Professional Studies in Education mission, vision, and values, as well as guidelines outlined in the Facilitator Handbook.


    70% Instructional Leadership and Development and Student Assessment


    • Make all necessary arrangements for instruction with face-to-face, blended, or online delivery with a co-facilitator including agendas, equipment, supplies, presenters, readings, etc.
    • Facilitate, in a spiraled and integrated fashion, the curriculum for each IPSE program
    • Facilitate emphasis areas as appropriate
    • Facilitate student success in the program's learning outcomes
    • Read current professional literature relevant to instruction
    • Provide students with continuous feedback on written work and other evidence of learning
    • Develop and utilize assessments based on best practices
    • Grade students in WINGS each semester for entire credit load
    10% Facilitator Development


    • Participate in facilitator developments and related activities as appropriate
    • Participate in the Spring Semester Retreat
    • Participate in the Fall Semester Retreat
    • Participate in the Fall for Education Conference
    • Participate in Canvas communications with colleagues on LC Facilitator Resources Canvas site
    • Participate in various evaluations including facilitator evaluations, Director evaluations, and Program evaluations
    • Participate in continual personal and collegial reflection on practice
    • Complete application process for Graduate Faculty Status
    10% Online Instructional Delivery and Feedback


    • Create and maintain cohort Canvas site
    • Provide feedback to students via cohort Canvas site
    • Provide feedback to administrative staff via facilitator Canvas site
    10% Student Advising


    • Advise students through the entire action research process
    • Advise students through the IRB process
    • Advise students through the Graduate Research, Service, and Education Leadership Grant process or other grants (if applicable)
    • Advise students in the registration process
    • Advise students on UW-L regulations and resources
    • Support students in the graduation process
    GRADUATE FACULTY STATUS

    MEMBERSHIP:

    When you are hired as a facilitator for IPSE, you are required to obtain Graduate Faculty Status. You must submit an updated vita or resume and a completed application form to the Director.

    The Director will forward the completed application and a letter of support to the Director of Graduate Studies asking for your appropriate graduate faculty membership.

    Graduate faculty membership is valid for 3 – 5 years (depending on the type of membership) at which point you will need to reapply if continuing your role as a facilitator.



    Physical demands:
    Some cohorts may require walking, hiking, backpacking.


    Working conditions and environment:
    For face-to-face and blended cohorts, travel may be necessary.


    Miscellaneous information:

    • ATTENDANCE
    Facilitator Attendance
    Graduate Faculty Facilitators are expected to attend 100% of cohort activities and professional development opportunities. Instructors facilitating online programs are expected to manage their online cohorts on a 3-4 week cycle.

    In the event that you are unable to fulfill any part of this commitment, you will need to let the IPSE Director know.


    • FACILITATOR PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT ACTIVITIES
    Facilitator professional development activities are a required part of your position and attendance is required.

    There are two Graduate Faculty Facilitator professional development weekends each year. The February Retreat is the first weekend in February and the September Retreat is the first weekend in September.

    In addition, there is the Annual Fall for Education Conference.

    There may also be facilitator developments throughout the year.

    Required Qualifications
    for graduate faculty facilitators, candidates without the terminal degree must satisfy the following additional criteria:


    • A minimum of 12 years of teaching experience
    • One or more of the following: 1) Designation as a National Board Certified Teacher; 2) designation as a Master Educator; 3) licensure as an administrator, reading specialist, pupil services director, director of instruction, or director of special education; 6) recognition of teacher leadership within their school and/or district; 7) awards in teaching (i.e., Herb Kohl Fellowship Awards, Fulbright Scholar, WI Teacher of the Year).

    All persons hired for Academic Instruction will be required to submit all of their official copies of their transcripts to Human Resources upon hire.

    Preferred Qualifications
    Doctoral degree in education or education related field.
