    Moffatt & Nichol specializes in large complex waterfront infrastructure projects and is recognized as one of the worldwide leaders in this field. Moffatt & Nichol is actively looking for an Intern with Structural Engineering focus to join our San Diego office. Interns will provide support to design engineers by being involved in engineering and administration of projects, as well as assisting in obtaining and reviewing information for marine, waterfront and bridge (depending on office location) design and analysis.

    Duties and responsibilities:

    • Analysis, design, inspection of waterfront and transportation structures.
    • Structural analysis and design with steel, reinforced concrete and composite materials
    • Prestressed concrete analysis and design
    • Develop plans, specifications, and inspection reports
    • Help resolve design problems that may include performing field investigation or inspections, detailed design work, and detailed checking of design computations done by others, or general coordination of specific design aspects into a project
    • Calculate construction quantities
    • Work closely with other engineers, scientists, project managers, etc. on multi-discipline projects
    • In-office construction administration including review of shop drawings and technical submittals

    Qualifications:

    • Pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Structural Engineering or Civil engineering with a Structural Emphasis
      • Must be a rising Junior in your Bachelor's degree program
      • A Master's degree student is preferred
    • Working towards an EIT certification
    • At least one previous related internship preferred but not required
    • Ability to perform field investigations a plus
    • Any experience in finite element analysis, AutoCAD, or consulting a plus
    • Due to client parameters, selected candidate must show (post offer) clear results of a thorough background check that may include but is not limited to credit and criminal history
    • All new hires will be required to successfully complete and pass a pre-employment (post offer) background check in compliance with NIST

    Base salary range:

    $24.00 to $31.00 per hour based on years of experience, level of education obtained, professional registration, and meeting the required qualifications in the job description.

    Base salary range only applicable for candidates who will be hired and working in the California markets.

    Physical requirements:

    Majority of work is office based. Some site visits may be required which may necessitate navigating unpaved or natural terrain while carrying equipment.
