- Lead person of a small to medium-sized construction crew installing, maintaining and repairing of water, sewer, and reclaimed apparatuses.
- Performs and directs visual inspection of sewer lines.
- Installs clean-outs, backflow devices.
- Performs related work as assigned or required.
- High school diploma or GED and 3 years of skilled utilities field experience; or
- An equivalent combination of education, training, and/or experience.
- Possession and maintenance of a valid State of Florida Class A Commercial Driver's License with Tanker endorsement upon promotion with eligibility based upon evaluation of a Motor Vehicle Administration (MVA) driving report.
- Possession and maintenance of a valid Level 3 Water Distribution System Operator License obtained in accordance with Florida Administrative Code, Chapter 62-, Drinking Water and Domestic Wastewater Treatment Plant Operators within nine months of promotion date.
- Possession and maintenance of Temporary Traffic Control Certification within 9 months of promotion date.
- Assignment to work a variety of work schedules including compulsory work periods in special, emergency, and/or disaster situations.
- Candidate may be required to perform manual labor for extended periods occasionally in adverse weather conditions.
- Ability to operate medium to large excavating equipment.
- Working knowledge of GIS mapping system for water, sewer and reclaim infrastructure.
- Ability to perform training assignments, job development, and on-the-job tasks.
- Ability to complete reading and math assignments.
- Ability to deal with co-workers and the public with tact, patience, and courtesy.

If you are looking to grow your career in Utilities maintenance, Pinellas County Government will keep you on track. The Utilities Maintenance Specialist 3 (Trainee) is skilled technical work involving specialized testing, maintenance, and repair of utilities systems equipment, lines, or devices. Employees in this class perform routine and preventive maintenance on a variety of utilities systems and devices. Duties may include supervising skilled and semi-skilled employees, and work is performed in accordance with established procedures, but requires initiative and independent judgment.
This is an excellent opportunity to bring utility maintenance experience into a mid-level career ladder role and train for a Utilities Maintenance Specialist 3 (UMS3) level. Once training is successfully completed, individuals will become UMS3 employees and receive an increase in pay. Also, there are future opportunities to advance to a UMS4 level, supervisor or manager roles.
