    RWJBH is seeking a Certified Surgical Technician in the Operating Room at the New Brunswick campus. This is a part-time, night position (24/hours/week).

    Requirements/ Qualifications:

    • Successful completion of a Surgical Technician program and Surgical technician certification required.
    • Previous surgical technician experience in an OR setting preferred.
    • Basic Life Support (BLS) through the American Heart Association (AHA) required.

    Education and Experience:

    • High School Diploma or GED equivalent required within one (1) year of hire.
    • Candidates who do not possess a High School Diploma or GED equivalent will be provided the opportunity to enroll in a GED/HSEA program at time of hire as a condition of employment. A hired candidate will be provided one (1) year from date of hire to successfully complete a GED program and obtain their HSEA.

    Job Specific Requirements:
    To perform scrub role/functions for surgical procedures.

    To assist in the nursing care activities and institutional services under the direction of a graduate professional nurse according to the job description and policies of the hospital.

    Demonstrates clinical expertise by applying knowledge and technical skills to all surgical procedures including consistent application of aseptic technique and maintenance of a sterile field.

    Consistently adheres to hospital and regulatory agency policies and procedures to insure safe, quality patient care including preparation for surgery, the thorough and safe handling of surgical specimens, accurate and thorough counting of instruments, sponges and needles, and expediting room turnover.

    Applies knowledge of growth and development over the life span.

    Applies the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served on his or her assigned unit, i.e.

    Infant, Adult, Pediatric, Geriatric and Adolescent.

    Assess data reflective of each patient s status and interprets information needed in order to identify each patient s age requirements relative to his or her age specific health care needs.

    Participates as a team member through professional oral communications, preparation and turnover of the operating room, positive interpersonal relationships and guest relations.

    Maintains current clinical skill and knowledge of trends in surgery by attending in-service programs, continuing education, expansion of clinical skills, participation in staff meetings, reading of journals/articles, and reading of hospital/department communications.

    Demonstrates proper handling of OR instruments and equipment with thorough follow through on repairs, losses, and maintenance.

    Assists in general nursing activities of the department to meet and improve the physical, psychological, and spiritual needs of surgical patients including all problem solving and performance improvement activities.
