    Florida A&M University is pleased to announce the acceptance of qualified applications for the Senior Police Service Technician vacancy.
    Responsibilities
    Every member within the agency will strive to provide excellent police services to all students, faculty/staff, visitors, and merchants of the FAMU community; Committing to the concept of community oriented policing when carrying out assigned duties and responsibilities, in a concerted effort to enhance campus safety and security for all who come upon the FAMU grounds; Assistants provide for public safety by maintaining order, responding to non-emergency, protecting people and property, enforcing motor vehicle and criminal laws, and promoting good community relations.

    While performing the duties of Community Service Assistant (CSA), tasks may involve the intermittent performance of extremely physical demanding work, typically involving some combination of reach, bending, stooping, kneeling and crouching; involve the lifting, carrying, pushing and or pulling of heavy objects and/or people; Some tasks are performed with the potential for intermittent exposure to disagreeable elements including, but not limited to heat, humidity, inclement weather, load noises, violent behavior, traffic and animals; Tasks includes working around moving parts, vehicles, golf carts, ATV, equipment and material handling.

    Performs a variety of specialized and technical non-sworn law enforcement duties in support of the Department of Safety and Parking Services in the areas of patrol, community services, parking and other services as assigned; Responds to non-hazardous, non-emergency and other calls for service in lieu of a police officer, such as traffic crashes with minor injuries, direct traffic, issue parking citations, lost property, stolen property, criminal mischief, building and vehicle checks, building open/close procedures, and motorist assistance.

    Collects pertinent information from victims of delayed non-critical calls for service; Completes written primary reports; Documents all calls for service; Prepares other written correspondence as needed; Provides assistance to Law Enforcement Officers with traffic control at traffic crashes, school dismissal periods, special events, and unusual occurrences; Assists with processing crime scenes for fingerprints, and collecting evidence; Issues parking citations to illegally parked vehicles on campus; Initiates towing of vehicles when applicable; Provides information and assistance to the general public; Answers citizen inquiries and respond to complaints and requests for services; Provides information to students, faculty, staff, and visitors including directions, information about crime prevention, community services, programs, and practices; and performs other related duties as required.

    Minimum Qualifications
    High school diploma or equivalency and four years of work experience; or a combination of relevant post high school education/certification and relevant experience equal to four years.
    Recommended Competencies
    Ability to demonstrate excellent customer service skills;

    Ability to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing;

    Knowledge of emergency communications and hazard response practices, procedures, and protocols;

    Ability to maintain accurate records and retrieve files from active or archive sources. Basic filing practices to include numeric and alphabetic systems;

    Knowledge of and ability to interpret and apply related federal, state, and local laws, ordinances, rules and regulations;

    Ability to meet physical requirements of position;

    Knowledge of and the ability to interpret and apply related University policies, procedures, principles, and practices;

    Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships;

    Knowledge of applicable federal, state and local laws and ordinances, as well as, standard operating procedures and/or departmental general orders;

    Knowledge of FAMU traffic rules and regulations and Florida Statute regarding the towing of vehicles, parking areas on campus;

    Knowledge of basic law enforcement principles;

    Skill in operating a two-radio;

    Skill in communicating clearly, concise and effectively, in person, in writing and on two-way radio;

    Skill in preparing reports, documenting the facts and actions regarding law enforcement incidents conforming to all rules of punctuation, grammar, diction and style;

    Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with University students, visitors, faculty and staff;

    Skill operating a motor vehicle safely and efficiently;

    Ability to deal with the campus community and general public in a professional and courteous manner;

    Ability to follow written and verbal directives and to communicate effectively verbally and in writing;

    Ability to build and maintain effective working relationships, to work in an effective and efficient manner both in a team environment and independent without direct supervision;

    Ability to use and interpret legal terminology, statues, ordinances, policy and procedure;

    Ability to write reports and issue parking with minimal errors;

    Ability to use and interpret street maps; and

    Ability to maintain physical condition appropriate to the performance of assigned duties and responsibilities which may include walking, standing or sitting for extended periods of time, lifting and moving equipment, supplies and injured/deceased persons, climbing stairs and performing life-saving and rescue procedures.

    Pay Plan
    This is an USPS (University Support Personnel System) position.
