    Job Description


    TheDirector, Environmental Health & Safety reports to the Executive Director,Public Safety & Chief of Police and will lead the University'scomprehensive campus environmental health and safety program through effectivecommunication and collaboration with leadership across campus, including theFinancial Vice President and Treasurer, Offices of the Executive VicePresident, Provost, Vice Provost for Research, Vice President for Facilities,and General Counsel with a service-oriented approach toward students, faculty,staff and visitors.


    Keyprogram management and advisory areas of responsibility will include:laboratory safety; management of environmental compliance areas; oversight ofworker safety programs under OSHA, including the employee safety trainingprogram; fire safety and fire prevention; support to the University AED program; andoversight of contract and services for management and disposal of hazardouschemical waste, biohazardous wastes, electronic wastes, and universal wastes.


    TheEH&S Director will also manage a professional team and work with partnersacross campus on evaluation, prevention, mitigation and or abatement ofexisting or potential environmental health and safety issues; establishprograms, policies, and procedures to facilitate compliance with all applicableUniversity, local, state, and federal codes and regulations; and monitoremerging regulations that may affect University operations.

    In addition, the Director will developstrategies for effective communication with the Boston College community,outside agencies and other stakeholders and advise and provide technicalguidance to the community on EH&S matters.


    Full-Time Equivalent Hiring Range:
    $153,600 to $192,000; salary commensurate with relevant experience.

    Requirements

    Bachelor'sdegree in an area related to environmental science/health, environmental/civilengineering, safety, chemistry, or biology. Master's degree preferred.


    Sevenyears of progressively increasing management, supervisory and budgetaryexperience necessary, preferably in an academic or research setting; and indepth knowledge of applicable EH&S laws, regulations, nationally recognizedstandards, guidelines, and best practices.

    Strongmeeting facilitation, communication, project management and organizationalskills.


    Abilityto foster trust and build interpersonal relationships; lead committees andprovide background information and effectively advocate for and escalate issuesor needs related to EH&S.
