    Job Purpose

    This full time position is essential to making sure our yard level manufacturing processes happen with quality, efficiency and service.

    The Sawyer Lead reports directly to the Yard Manager and works closely with all yard employees in our Spokane, Washington lumberyard.

    Duties and Responsibilities
    • Load the saw with lumber both by hand and with a forklift
    • Cut lumber to specific dimensions
    • Maintain equipment (remove and install blades as needed)
    • Safely operate all equipment always pay proper attention and behave in the safest possible manner
    • Maintain yard and area cleanliness during course of work
    • Perform daily safety audit of saws and other equipment and promptly report any malfunctioning equipment
    • Utilize proper shutdown and maintenance procedures
    • Utilize all proper Personal Protective Equipment at all times (shoes, gloves, glasses, hearing protection, no loose clothes/hair/jewelry, etc.)
    • Work with Sales Team to ensure quality control and timeliness
    • Understand weight, height and length limits for company's fleet of trucks in order that everything can be safely and lawfully loaded
    • Assist Inventory Specialist in maintaining an appropriate level of inventory
    • As time allows assist Lumber Yard Associates in filling orders of "walk-in customers" and maintaining yard cleanliness
    • Ensure that appropriate paperwork is completed as per company policy, with a high degree of accuracy
    Qualifications

    Qualifications Include:
    • High school diploma or GED equivalent
    • OSHA Certified Forklift License preferred
    • Knowledge of receiving/inventory control principles, practices and protocols.
    • Knowledge of dimension lumber, panel products and other building materials.
    • Ability to read and interpret "picking tickets" and invoices.
    • Ability to concentrate and attend to detail amidst a busy work environment.
    Interpersonal Skills:
    • Ability to communicate effectively in both oral and written form.
    • Ability to work cordially, professionally, diplomatically and with a high level of customer service in a dynamic environment
    • Demonstrate sound judgment in dealing with sensitive business matters with internal and external customers of all types. Must maintain confidentiality and accuracy of all information related to company finances and records, particularly, cost of goods purchased and sold
    • Ability and willingness to identify processes, tools and/or procedures that may be improved upon in an effort to improve the workplace and outcomes for our customers
    • Ability to communicate with all levels of management and employees at various levels throughout the organization
    • Strong focus, planning, organizational and time management skills with the ability to manage changing priorities, handle multiple projects, and do what is necessary to meet deadlines, while maintaining a high degree of attention to detail and accuracy
    • Ability to function independently, as part of a team, and as a leader within your own cohort with a positive attitude, strong work ethic and commitment to excellence
    • Ability to think and respond quickly, positively and professionally to constantly changing circumstances
    • Adhere to company procedures, policies and protocols as set forth in the Employee Handbook
    Working Conditions

    This position works outside in the lumberyard in all weather conditions. The working days are rotating Mon-Sat.

    Physical Requirements
    • Ability to pass pre-placement physical and physical capacities examination
    • Must be able to lift up to 90 lbs.
    • Must be able to work outdoors in all weather conditions
    • Ability to stoop, bend, walk and effectively communicate
    • Able to drive company vehicle when needed
